Code composer 3.1 compatibility issue windows 7

Hi

I own a 6416DSP on a spectrum digital board. It shipped with a setup for CCS 3.1. I am running windows 7 32 bit.. and while the installation went smoothly I have encountered hiccups when it comes to running CCS 3.1. The Board connects perfectly and the diagnostics check out. I am able to run Code composer setup but Code composer itself does not run. I observe a CPU drain when I open it. However it seems to crash without ever going beyond the load.I have tried all possible compatibility options.

I also tried installing CCS v4 but was not able to make it work with the Board.

SOS!!!

  • Faraz,

CCSv3.1: Are you running CCS from the setup program, or from the desktop shortcut.  I have found that on Vista and Win7 you need to run it directly and cannot say yes to the prompt to run CCS after making changes in setup.

CCSv4: I run Win7 64 on my main machine.  What issue do you have when trying to connect to the 6416 DSK?  What did you select in the target setup?  The connection should be "Spectrum Digital DSK-EVM-eZdsp onboard USB Emulator" and then check the box for "DSK6416".

  • John thanks four your help. I tried the approach with 3.1 that you suggested. But I am still getting an error about it not being able to start correctly (error: 0*c000005).

I am downloading CCS v4 and will try connecting with it as well. The reason I was more keen on v3.1 is to keep commonality and avoid having to convert from legacy projects in v4. My other machine runs XP and I prefer to keep V3.1 running on it since I have been using it for over a year and I want to avoid the learning curve for the CCS v4 enviornment for now.

I am working to implement a real time MELP vocoder on the 6416.

    Thanks again.

    Faraz

  • There is a learning curve with v4.  The environment has changed a lot since 3.1.  There is an import wizard for 3.x projects.  You can also configure it to use an older compiler if you want.  If your existing projects are BIOS based then you may have migration to go through there as it would have been a much older version of BIOS in 3.1.  If using BIOS5 the migration is pretty good, if using BIOS 4.90 then you have some work to do.

Moving to v4 is a good idea if you are going to start something new as we don't maintain 3.1 anymore.

  • Hey Faraz same problem happened with me..I ahve 32 bit Windows 7 and CCS 3.1..please tell what have you done?? My board is connected but CCS is nt opeing and shows error message which you did get..plz reply me ASAP..thanks in advance..

  • Avad you are better off just upgrading to CCS v4.

Or use the slightly more expensive option that I used and buy a second hand PC running XP.

  • Thanks Faraz...

I also Installed Win Xp on my laptop..

  • Hi,

I had the same problem and just ran code composer v3.1 in XP mode in windows 7. You can do this by viewing http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx  . Just remember restarting the 'virtual PC'    through Action--> Restart and then clicking USB--> TMS320C6713 Attach.

  • Hi all,

I recently tried to install 3.1 on my windows 7 enterprise 32 bit, and I couldn't make it start. It can install but I can't open it. However, the symptom is different from everybody here.

So when I tried to start the CCS, this error appears :

"cc_app.exe the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005)"

Is there anybody who experienced this problem previously? Any suggestion on what it might be?

    Thanks a bunch,

    Fajar
