please explain how to activate CCS4 licence link to multiple kits (multiple platforms)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320VC5505

Hi

I have a number of eZ* kits from TI including:

TMS320VC5505 eZdsp

eZ430-F2013

ezZ30-RF2500

ez430-RF2480

And I would like to move their code into new CCS4

I have the licence linked to eZdsp:

Code Composer Studio IDE - Platinum for DSK or XDS100 (no annual subscription) - (HWN01A) , which works OK, but only with C5505 kit and

I am not able to run any MSP430 software for any of eZ430* kits.

How to manage it? I can see no options for that under myTi/myRegisteredSoftware.

Do I need to install another CCS4 microcontroller edition? Can both versions be installed together?

I am after a free MSP430 version locked to evaluation kit (eZ430*). Does it exist?

Please help me to solve this problem. I think other people might have a similar one.

Thank you

Jan

  • Hi Jan,

you need to have a license for the PLATINUM edition (TMDSCCS-ALLN01) in order to use it with all TI product (i.e. MSP430, TMS320, ..). Since you can use the PLATINUM editon free for eZdsp boards you need to by a license to get a real FULL version ($1,995.00). Or, you might use a 30-day evaluation license (+ 90-day extension) and use this one for your MSP430 developments.

When you're installing the toolchain you will be prompted to select which options to install (i.e. don't install MSP430 toolset if it is not needed), so be shure to select everything.
There were codesize limited versions available too; pls visit http://www.tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Download_CCS for downloading the MCU core editon (MSP430 16KB, C28x 32KB; CORTEX M3 support will be added with release of CCS version 4.1 (as far as I know by the end of the year).
I have not tested a parallel installation of a full license side-by-side with a codesize limited ones, but it should work. I would recommend installing it into different directories and not using the default one (for the codesize ones i.e.).

  • Thank you aBUGSworstnightmare

under the link http://www.tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Download_CCS you can read:

    Platinum

    • Download this image if you received an activation ID from TI!!!
    • ~900MB
    • Supports ARM, C28x, C54x, C55x, C6000, DaVinci, MSP430 and OMAP.
    • Enables a 30 day evaluation license.
    • Can be used for FREE with EVMs, DSKs and eZdsp boards that have onboard emulation as well as simulators and XDS100 emulators.
    • Can be upgraded to a full license.
    • Same image that comes on the CCS DVD (Platinum & Microcontroller).

    I repeat

Can be used for FREE with EVMs, DSKs and eZdsp boards that have onboard emulation as well as simulators and XDS100 emulators.

Doesn't eZ430* fall into that category?

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

sorry, but an eZ430 does not belong to that category! You will have to buy a license or use one of the limited versions (code size - or time limited).

  • Hi aBUGworstnightmare,

     Thanks for that answer.

It is highly questionable or at least very confusing, as all eZ430s have build in emulator like eZdsp.

Maybe the description on abovementioned website should be clarified to avoid missinterpretetion.

At lest I know now, what is the current status.

    Regards

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

you can use it for free with eZdsp boards that have onboard emulation , but since an eZ430 is not an eZdsp it is not for free.

FYI, the wiki page linked above has been updated. From the wiki:
Can be used for FREE with EVMs, DSKs and eZdsp boards that have onboard emulation as well as simulators and XDS100 emulators. Note that eZ430 does not work with this free license.
    Sorry for the confusion!

  • Thanks Tim,

I have now two installations of CCS4 and both of them work.

To complete the picture I would like to ask if there is any special licensing for CCS4 under University Program?

    Regards

    Jan

  • Hi Tim,

it's good to have the Wiki updated. In addition, there's a FAQ regarding this topic too (http://www.tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/FAQ_-_CCSv4#Q:_Can_I_use_my_eZ430_with_the_.22free_limited_license.22.3F), so there should be no confusion any more now.

  • Hi Jan,

I am told that there is not yet a discount for University pricing. I am not sure if this is in the works or not. Sorry I can't be of more help. You can try contacting univ@ti.com to see if they have anymore information if interested.
