CCS V5.5 ARM Compiler 5.1.1 update failure

Hello,

I am working with CCS V5.5 and ARM compiler 5.1.1. I am using a couple of the TIVA M4 parts. In order to gain uniforminty within the company, I was attempting to update my compiler to 5.1.2 through CCS. Using help->install new software, I was able to find ARM compiler tools version 5.1.2. I installed and CCS requested I restart CCS for the changes to be implemented. When CCS reboots, a "Code Composer Studio V5 Setup" install icon apears on my desktop and the install just hangs there. No progress. If I close the icon and launch code composer the same icon appears and hangs.

This is a company machine running windows 7. There is anti virus software that I can not disable. Has anyone else had this error? What else can I be looking at? This is my second attempt at updating the ARM compiler. I had to do a fresh install of CCS (which is a real pain) in order for CCS to launch again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Jeff,

Sorry you are having this problem. Could we get a copy of install logs in these two folders from a PC where this problem has occurred? (zip the folders and post them here):

C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallJammer Registry\ccsv5

C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallJammer Registry\64C86D0F-D63F-4231-850A-CC174D92ECF3

In the meantime, if you encounter the problem where you cannot get past the installation window, you can work around this by renaming the c:\ti\ccsv5\eclipse\downloads folder to something else (say downloads.orig). This will allow CCS to start but the compiler you were attempting to install will still not be installed. You can manually install the compiler by browsing to the downloads.orig folder and running the compiler installer directly. The compiler install folder would be c:\ti\ccsv5\tools\compiler\arm_5.1.2.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your help. Your suggestion of renaming the eclipse\downloads folder allowed CCS to launch again. I look forward to figuring out why the update causes the problem.

Jeff,

In looking at the log, all we can see is the installer hangs right when it attempts the first http operation (specifically it tries to download http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/codegen/Updates/p2win32/timestamp.txt). There is no evidence of why the http call does not return.Do you still have a file called :C:/Users/frankjrz/AppData/Local/Temp/ijtmp_B0A71A84-B294-4696-97EE-3BA423428A1F/tmpfile on the system that the logs are from? This might provide a clue if it exists.

Jeff,

The problem seems to be that you were getting a "301" error from the http server and the installer didn't know how to handle that kind of http redirect. 301 means the url location was permanently moved. There were infrastructure changes being made on the TI server last week so I suspect those have something to do with why this started appearing. I'm not seeing this issue now though, so I can't explain why it appeared and then seems to have disappeared.

Is there a way to try again without uninstalling CCS? I still have the downloads folder renamed.

Good idea! You could just rename the downloads folder back to it's original name and restart CCS. If the problem is actually gone, it should complete the install.

Hi Andy,

I changed my downloads folder back and had the same issue of the installer hanging up on launch of CCS. Any other ideas? How do I cancel that install without a full CCS uninstall?

Sorry for the delay in responding. Are you still having this problem? Could you zip up the log files and post them here? Also, could you list the contents of your downloads folder? I'll take a look at the logs and get back to you as soon as possible.
