Trouble with Windows Vista

Hello!

I'm having trouble running CCS3.1 on Vista. I have deactivated UAC and managed to go through the installation and setup. However, when I try to open or create a new project, it crashes immediately. Has anyone found a solution to this? Will an upgrade to CCS3.3 solve the problem? I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that won't fix it. I'm quite satisfied with CCS3.1 otherwise.

Many thanks for any input or ideas!

/ Daniel

  • Hi,

I dont think CCS3.1 is supported on Windows Vista.

    Please see this.

I think upgrading to CCS3.3 might solve your problem.

  • Hi Sansrom,

have a look at this WIKI post : http://wiki.davincidsp.com/index.php/Vista_with_CCS; maybe this helps.

    There's another one related to MSP430 and CCE V3.1 here : http://wiki.davincidsp.com/index.php/MSP430_JTAG_Interface_USB_Driver .

  • Thanks for your input.

Ok, CCS3.1 is unsupported on Windows Vista. However, CCS3.3 doesn't seem to work perfectly with Vista, supported or not. I just want to make sure that an upgrade to 3.3 indeed solves the problem, since the cost is quite large for me.

Has anyone seen any similar or related problems using CCS3.3? Can it be a compatibility issue with for example a .Net framework version or Microsoft Office? I wouldn't be surprised, it is after all Windows we're dealing with...

    Best regards

  • Hi Daniel,

CCS 3.3 should work on Vista if you follow the steps in the url that aBUGSworstnightmare mentioned. There are many users of CCS 3.3 using it with Vista. Actually I think CCS 3.1 should work on Vista also. Most likely the issue is unrelated to Vista.Could you provide a bit more details on your environment? Basically #2 through #5 in: http://community.ti.com/forums/t/6045.aspx

Also, are you running in Administrator privileges?

    Thanks

  • Hi Ki,

Sorry I overlooked the sticky thread regarding error description.

    I'm running the following versions:

    CCS: 3.1.0
    Integrated development: 5.90.0.227
    BIOS: cuda-4.90.02.10
    Code generation tools: v5.1.0

CCS crashes when I try to add files to a recently created project (immediately after making the menu choice), or when I open an existing project (also immediately after making the menu choice). The following error message appears:

    Unexpected Fatal Error Encountered
which may have been caused by a stack overflow,
out of memory condition, or access violation.

I'm going to try and save your work before TERMINATING this application.

    I've attached a dump report.

And, yes, I have Administrator privileges.

    Thanks!

    / Daniel

  • Hi Daniel,

The dump file indicated that the crash originated from the windows file browse dialog (makes sense since you were browsing for a file or project). Does this error occur with a specific project or any project?  Could you also try opening a project or adding a source file by dragging and dropping into CCS from windows explorer?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi Ki,

I think you're right, cc crashes every time it tries to open a file browser. I tried some other menu options which open a file browser it always crashes. When I try to open a project or adding a file by dragging and dropping, it works fine.

Is there any solution to the file browse crash problem?

    Thanks,

    Daniel

  • Seems we're pretty close to a solution. No idea what could be wrong?

    Thanks,

    Daniel

  • Hi Sansrom,

Not sue if this will help, but I came across a similar problem for Vista some days before (not for CCS though).

    Hope this helps,
