MSP-FET430UIF problem in CCS: Error initializing emulator: Could not initialize device interface

I searched about these errors in other threads but I don't found the answer.

I've a MSP-FET430UIF and I was usually using but today when i went to use it don't worked.

The device is recognized by the device manager of the windows 7 64bits.

But the CCS 6 show this error: "Error initializing emulator: Interface Communication Error"

None led of the FET turn on when I connect in the USB (but the device manager recognize).

I tried with other FET and work well.

What is the problem? A corrupt firmware or a hardware problem? How to update the firmware to try solve this?

Hi Haroldo,

were you asked to update the firmware? One thing to try is the free flash programmer from elprotronic. (www.elprotronic.com)

Also, if you have a second pc to double check.

Hi Lisa,

I tried to use the software from "www.elprotronic.com" and upgrade, downgrade. But the state continue the same. In one moment after the downgrade the FET was recognized with the name "TUSB..." in the device manager, but after the upgrade return to the normal name "MSP-430FETUIF-CDC...".

When I tried to use the "MSP430Flasher_1.3.1", after insert the partnumber "msp430g2955" the software recognize the FET int the COM3, but after the software stopped and exited of the application.

Tomorrow I will try to realize the same process in another computer.

I have experienced the same problem, the first time it is used after booting the PC. Some times re-starting CCS6 fixes it. Sometimes just unplugging and re-plugging the USB fixes it. Today I had to move the USB to a different position on the PC. The good news is that once it starts working it continues to work until the next reboot.

The thread is a bit old, but the problem sounds just too familiar. I had even purchased a new FET-UIF, upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and re-installed CCS from scratch on a clean system - no change.

I have found two workarounds:

Switch to Linux. It worked flawlessly under Linux (on the same hardware in the same USB port)
Use an active-powered USB hub. I put such a hub (with its own power supply) between computer and FET-UIF - and it worked (on WIndows 7).

I have had this problem in Linux (ubuntu 15.04). The thing that made a difference was to switch to a usb2 host port instead of a usb3 one. (Or disabling usb3 in the BIOS would have the same effect I guess)
