Possible to clear locks when CCE hangs?

Hi - I'm using CCE on a PC (under XP) to debug a couple of CC430 radios. From time to time, something hangs, for example I won't be able to stop the running program under debug, or I'll let the PC sleep while the program is running which causes it to be confused when the PC wakes up again. Anyway, the problem is this: I am generally unable to get CCE to come back, so I have to shut it down from the Windows Task Manager. Having done this I cannot restart in that workspace because there's a lock file (or something) that makes CCE think the workspace is in use. Has anyone got any tips for fixing this short of rebooting the PC?

look for javaw.exe in task manager. Kill that and hopefully you can start CCS using your workspace.

Good thought. Unfortunately, that particular javaw process will not die. (I did manage to kill the other instances of CCE I had running!) Unless Windows has some kind of "kill -9" incantation that I don't know about?

try unplugging USB emulator (FET), then kill javaw.exe

Martin - Thanks, that seems like a good idea. I am having trouble getting the thing to hang at the moment (I guess that's good news!) so I haven't been able to test your solution yet. When I do I will post a followup.

I have the exact same issue and unplugging the FET does not help. I tried using sysinternal process explorer to kill javaw.exe but that does not work either. My only solution is to reboot my PC which gets old fast.

TI really should make the cancel button on the FET dialogs actually work when their is a JTAG communication issue.

Any other ideas?

I have exactly the same problem. I noticed that problem come more frequently once the code is comming bigger. I use a MSP430-FETU430IF, CCE version 4.0.1.01001, A target board with a MSP430FG477. About once on 3-4 times I try to debug the firmware, CCE freeze and is trying to communicate with my USB programmer. I noticed also, when I'm trying to reboot my PC, that I have this curious error: "XPCOM:EVENTRECEIVER". Is it Windows XP the culprit? I'm runiing wnidows XP SP3 on a DELL machine Intel Dual core E2160@ 1.8GHz, 4GB of ram. The more frustrating point is when I try to kill javaw.exe. I'm not able to kill this program that cause that freeze. If anabody has a solution, I would appreciate if you could e-mail-me or reply to this post.

Unfortunately I don't have a good solution to offer other than what has already been suggested in this thread.

In some cases, unplugging the USB emulator and re-plugging helps, but not always. Also killing the javaw.exe process works in many cases, but I am told in some instances it cannot be killed, such as when it makes a call into a device driver which never returns. Unfortunately the only solution I am aware of in those cases is rebooting the computer.

If <javaw.exe> has child processes, the Microsoft's Sysinternals utility <pskill.exe> may help. This utility is part of the PsTools package and can be obtained here.

To kill a process and its dependencies, open a command prompt and go to the directory where the PsTools where installed and run pskill:

C:\<installation_dir_of_pstools> pskill -t PID

PID can be obtained by opening Task Manager and locating the PID of <javaw.exe> or using the PsTools utility <pslist.exe>:

C:\<installation_dir_of_pstools> pslist javaw
