Piccolo F28035 On-chip flash programming

I'm having a piccolo TMDXCNCD28035/TI and uses a USB2000 JTAG from Blackhawk, but facing some problems with the "On-chip flash programmer", witch do not support the f2803x device.

When trying to use the tool with a self created board (In the CCS setup, i've created my own f28035 board) I get this message:

Then I tried select a F28xx controller in the Parallel debug manager with an attached f28035.gel file witch helped me a little farther.... Strange....

'

As you see, the API interface file is correct (the black box), but can't select the correct dsp device to program (the red box).

CCS info:

Integrated development: 5.98.0419 texas instruments

vers: 3.3.83.16

Bios: 5.33.05

Code generation tool: V5.1.3

When do you (texas) have a update ready for this issue?

  • Can't get the "on-chip flash prommer" menu to work now. Seems that I've placed a f2808 device in the soccet before, when trying to use the tool.

    Sorry for the missunderstanding...

I only get the error box with the correct setup...

  • Denis,

Do you have access to one of the 28035 experimenter or controlCard boards?  Curious if it is working on a different board. We are able to flash 28035 with the CCS build you are using in our lab.

I wonder if an older version of the flash plugin is getting loaded.  Can you try the following:

    1. Go to help -> About
    2. Click the component manager button
    3. Expand the Texas Instruments node of the tree on the left
    4. Look for Flash28xx and expand it
    5. Check the version #

Let me know what that version # is and I will get our guys in the lab to check which one is loaded for them.

    Thanks,

    John

  • The attached image shows what we see when looking at the flash plug-in in that build.  For us 28035 is present in the dropdown.  In your capture it isn't shown.  I really think that CCS is loading the wrong version of the plug-in.

    Regards,

    John

  • Dennis,

Using the latest version of the 32KB limited version of CCS I had no problem flashing the F28035. I used the onboard XDS100 emulator. It looks like you are using an older version of the Code Gen tools, the latest one is V5.2.0. Try downloading the latest 32KB limited version and install it in a DIFFERENT directory than your current install. Or you can just completely remove your current install and install the latest version. (use the Windows uninstall feature it doesn't quite work right). Email ccslclaupdate@list.ti.com and I will send you a link to the latest 32KB limited version. For anyone else who has purchased a Piccolo B tool please email this list and I will send you the link as well.

Let me know if this fixes the problem

  • Here's the CCS 32KB limited version I am using. (no, we haven't tested CCS for Windows 7 compatibility, I installed a Windows 7 theme[:H])

  • Thank you for the answers,

heres some photos of my setup:

I only need a link to the update file now...

  • Hi Dennis,

Thanks for the screanshot. It shows that you are using CodeGen v5.1, whereas I'm using codegen v5.2. I wonder if this is part of the issue. Try installing the 32KB limited version release 16 completely from scratch. In other words, make sure to not install the new version over the old version. This seems to cause lots of odd problems. Instead install the new version into a completely different directory. You can download the latest 32KB version here

Let me know if this helps.

  • 1: Totally removed all parts of texas software

2: Installed the limited version of CCS

3: Installed the blackhawk JTAG drivers from cd

I think the big issue was about the two files in the "Flash28xx" menu...

But it all works now, thank you for helping...

  • Is there a solution without uninstalling and putting on the size limited free version?  All the other projects I work on need the full tool.  I use the 2811, 2809, and the 28235.

Can't get the Flash plug-in to work for the 28035.

    Running SR12_CCS_V3.3_SR_3.3.82.13.

Flash plug in is file version 5.92.0.314 and version 1.12.5.

Is there a newer plug in to use with V3.3 IDE?

  • Bill,

On update advisor there should be a patch specifically for the flash plug-in for 2803x users who have CCS 3.3 with SR12.  It's listed as "Code Composer Studio V3.3 SR-12 F2803x Flash Plug-in Update".

You can also get it from this thread: https://community.ti.com/forums/t/7217.aspx

Note: this only updates the flash plug-in.  It does not add CLA debugger capability.
