Text Search

I noticed this question has been asked before but the posts I've read don't really seem to give a clear answer.

When I try to search for a text string using File Search, the results seem very unpredictable. Sometimes it finds things OK, other times I get zero results, even though I know there are multiple instances in the project.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way that works every time, because I can't find one and it's very frustrating ?

What does the search regard as the Workspace ?

    Hi Gautam,

    I'm using CCSv6.

    I did try looking at the help associated with the Search but it doesn't really seem to be that much help.

    Hi Geoff,

    File Search should give you the most comprehensive search since.

    The Workspace would be to search all Projects that are part of the workspace (shows up in the Project Explorer) that are not closed.

    Can you give me an example of the inconsistent results you see?

    I wish I could give you an example, but it seems totally random as to when it works and when it doesn't.

    I'm sure you know that in these circumstances, when you want something to go wrong, it won't do it !

    When CCS has three projects listed in the Project Explorer, the File Search (when it works) will find all instances in all three projects (at least I think it's all instances). Is that what should happen, i.e. is that what you call the workspace ?

    Yes, all open projects in your CCS instance would be searched as they are all part of the workspace.

    If the problems increase in frequency, you can try cleaning the workspace folder.
