CCS 4 license server

I just got a floating license for ccs 4. But I am a bit confused how to set up the server after I got the .lic file. I am the only one using the license for now. Can I just use my PC as the license server? I downloaded lmadmin as suggested by http://www.tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/License_Server_Administration_for_CCS  but I don't know if I install it correctly as there are quite a few options. Appreciate if you can help. Thanks.

  • Max,

Yes it is possible to run the license server on your own PC.

The pdf guide that the wiki page links to is pretty detailed as it is the stand FlexNET licensing guide and has to cover every possibility.  However in CCS we don't use all the features so it is more simple to setup.  How far are you getting in the instructions?

  • John,

Thanks for your reply. I have received the license file from TI, and installed lmadmin with all its default settings. At the end of the installation of lmadmin, it popped up a web page but I am not sure what to do with it as I don't have admin username/password for the lmadmin. Basically I only completed Step 1 in the http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/License_Server_Administration_for_CCS. Not sure if I got the Step2 right. I copied the .lic fine to ccsv4\DebugServer\license\.

That is all I have done. I started with a 30 day trial license. It is still using the trial license even after I put the right path for the license file in the license option.

It would be greatly appreciated if TI could simplify the steps for the installation instead of adding a link.

    Thanks

  • Max,

CCS will keep using that 30 day license until it expires and then look for a different license.

The admin username and password for lmadmin should be admin/admin.  Note that the license file needs to go in the root directory of lmaadmin and not \debugserver\license

I agree that we do need some simplified instructions.

  • John,

So you think after 5days, CCS will use the new license if I move the license file to the root?

After installing lmadmin, I don't know how to bring up its webpage any more. When I click lmadmin.exe, it just flashes and then closes. Any idea?

    Thanks,

  • Once the 30 day license has expired it will look for a new license.  If you have updated the licenselocation.txt file in \Debugserver\license to have your license server info at the top it should find it if things are working with the server.

I have only used lmadmin once as part of a test we did a while back.  One of our apps guys is going to create a wiki topic that has a more concise series of steps, likely a week away though.

If things don't work for you when the 30 day license expires there is a 90 day extension that can be used (we can manually extend after that).  Also with the 90 day extension it is a physical file so you can just move it somewhere while trying to get the license server running.
