Need API to talk to ancient TMS320F206

I need an API to talk to an old TMS320F206 DSP (C20 family).  We have CC 4.10.36 and a validated .out file ready to be flashed to the device.  I have heard of a utility that does this but it only under windows 3.1.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

  • There was a TI Flash Programming Utility for the F20x family. If you have CC 4.1 and a F206 platform, you should be able to track down a copy of that. I would think it would run under Win95 and/or Win98, and I am pretty sure we ran F20x under WinNT. WinXP does allow you to run exe's in Compatibility Mode that makes it look like it is still Win95, etc. Why do you say "it only under windows 3.1" and what is the missing word?

At www.ti.com, search for spru282 "F20x DSP Embedded Flash Memory Tech Ref" for information on how to program this family of devices. This link spru282.pdf may take you there directly, but there may be other useful literature found through searches there.

  • I know not whether API is the correct terminology but we continue to utilize a utility, F206SLDR.EXE (Advanced Information TI 'manual' is entitled TMX320F206 Flash Serial Loader Rev 2.0), that I know from personal experience runs under Win 95, 2000, and XP.  I have pending with Technical Support a request for download information wondering about a later version and / or a final version of the manual but I have been unable to locate it online.

  • Please see if these will help you:

    spru127 (rev c) "TMS320C20x User's Guide" which includes Appendix B "TMS320F206 Flash Serial Loader".

spru282 "TMS320F20x/F24x DSP Embedded Flash Memory Technical Reference".

  • Thanks for your interest.  The documents you reference have some items of interest, including Appendix B.2.1 explicitly references the executable, F206sldr.exe, about which I was seeking information.  For the most part the information is way beyond what I need or understand .... I just was interested in the executable and a users guide for it.

Tim Love of Technical support (Service Request# 1-629189573)  provided a zipped folder, sfldr20.zip, that included the executable and a manual of sorts.  Apparently this was never formally released but it was the information I wanted.  My impression was / is that this is what the original poster of this thread wanted as well.

  • Hi Leonard

    I have a problem with F206.

I have TMS320F206 that program it by XDS510pp and sdflash beta0.12.

How can program F206 by XDS510LC or TDS510.

    Is it possible?

Ofcource I wrote my program in CC4.1 and I can't compile it in CCS3.1.

    What should I do?

    Please help me?

    Thanks.

  • We have a XDS510 PP but have never tried to use it to directly program the TMS320F206 or to compile the programs ... just load symbols and modest debug.  We never did find a satisfactory solution to the non-volatility of the flash memory .... perhaps the sdflash you mention was that "missing link."

We also have a XDS510PC that we have used for flashing (and also progarmming for the C203); this method runs file prg2xx.exe or the newer prg2xxw95.exe.  The write up I have from TI, TMX320F206 JTAG Based Flash Programmer Rev 2.0 states that it is compatible with Windows 95 only; I have been unable to get it to run on Win 2000 even though the XDS itself does.

When we purchased the XDS510PP we understood from the supplier that no newer model supported the TMS320F206.  Whether or not that is true I cannot say from personal knowledge; in any case, I cannot help with any newer models.

We continue to program our device using the serial port utility, F206SLDR.EXE, that was provided to us by TI (reference the earlier parts of this thread.)

We continue to compile under 'DOS' using direct calls to the tools such as "dspcl -o0 -v2xx  %1.C >> make.txt".

In summary, you are trying to do something that we never have done; I don't expect to be able to help.
