Will TI Release CCE for C28x?

I assumed the Piccolo was following the MSP430 example with a low-price EVM to appeal to non-commercial efforts, however, after I ordered the $39 Control Stick, I installed the CCS free eval software only to realize that I was evaluating CCS in addition to the the Piccolo chip in the Evaluation Module--after 120 days I've got to pony up $495.02 to continue use.

Is TI planning to offer CCE for Piccolo MCUs?

  • The CCE brand goes away with the release of CCSv4.

With CCSv4 there are two main versions.  Platinum which supports all of our instruction sets (DSP, 28x, ARM, MSP) and Microcontroller which currently supports 28x and MSP.  There are two variants of the Microcontroller version.  The full version which is 495 and then a free code size limited one (16KB MSP430 and 32KB 28x).  Even with CCSv3.3 it should have been a code size limited version that was bundled with the control stick and not a time limited one.

Good to hear!  I'll have to install the beta and give it a try.

You are correct, I just received the controlSTICK and uninstalled CCS then reinstalled from the CD and, sure enough, no mention of a 120 day limit.

BTW, I'm kind of stumped on the CCS registration page:  it wants me to enter a "Service Code", but I can't find one of those in any of the materials I received.  Any idea where I can find this?

    Thanks,
