ROV Failed to Start

I'm using CCSv4.1.1.  I've compiled and loaded a "hello world" BIOS project to my L137 EVM.  When I try to start the ROV I get the following message:

ROV failed to start. To continue using ROV, resolve the issue then terminate and restart the debug session before trying again.

There is a version mismatch between the ROV server and the ROV plugin.  Make sure the most recent XDC tools version is selected.

By poking around CCSv4 I've been able to determine the following:

ROV controller version: 3.16.2.32

XDC tools core version: 3.16.2.32

Any idea what could be the problem?

  • Hi Gus,

I've seen this error message in ROV when you have multiple versions of XDCtools installed.  If that is the case, you can work around it by going into Help->Software Updates->Manage Configuration... and disable one of the XDCtools installations.

    Then relaunch CCS.

The team is working on a better error message and also avoiding the situation altogether.

  • I am experiencing the same problem:

"ROV Failed to start.  If the problem was with the XDCtools root or path, terminate and restart the debug session before trying again.  Unsupported ISA: 98".

    CCS v4.1.3.00038

    RTSC/XDCtools 3.20.0.41

The issue is not fixed, it seems to me.

  • Hi Portos,

In order to use XDCtools 3.20 .0x.xx you need to use CCSv4.2 or higher.  CCSv4.1.3 is not supported by that version of XDCtools.  If you wish to stay on CCSv4.1.3 you will need to use XDCtools3.16.0x.xx.

Is there a reason you need XDCtools 3.20.0x.xx?  I can help you get ROV up and running just need to understand your environment better and what versions you are running for BIOS, IPC and XDCtools.

    Thanks,

    -Jon

  • Thanks John.

No particular need for XDCtools 3.20.

We can upgrade to CCS 4.2, or downgrade XDCtools.

The main issue issue is to get ROV up and running. We have the following versions:

    BIOS 5.40.xxx  and 6.20.xxx

XDCtools was 3.15, now 3.20 (both failed to start).

    DSP C62xx

    IPC 1.0.1.48.

    Thanks again for your help.

Sorry, I missed that you were using the DSP C62xx.

BIOS 6 does not currently support DSP C62xx.  You can see the list of supported devices through the link in the BIOS 6 release notes. I.e., http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/bios/sysbios/6_21_00_13/exports/docs/packages/ti/sysbios/family/doc-files/devices.html

Here is an example of the list of supported 62xx devices in BIOS 5.41.xx: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/bios/dspbios/5_41_02_14/exports/docs/Bios_5_41_02_14_release_notes.html

Assuming your c62xx is a supported device, I would recommend option 1.

Option 1) Download and install CCSv4.2 RC1 from this link.  Use the default BIOS, IPC and XDCtools versions in the download.

Once you have installed CCS4.2 go to "Window --> Preferences".  This will bring up a pop-up where you can select "CCS" and this will expand with several options, one of which is "RTSC".  Click and highlight RTSC, this will show several items to the right.   Under "RTSC Support" select XDCtools version: 3.20.03.63.  Below that for the tab that says "Products and Repositories" select BIOS 5.41.07.24.   Click "Apply" and "OK".  You should now be setup to use ROV.

Option 2)  Use 4.1.2 that you have installed with the following versions.

Once you have installed the versions above, for CCS4.1.2 go to "Window --> Preferences".  This will bring up a pop-up where you can select "CCS" and this will expand with several options, one of which is "RTSC".  Click and highlight RTSC, this will show several items to the right.   Under "RTSC Support" select XDCtools version: 3.16.02.32.  Below that for the tab that says "Products and Repositories" select BIOS 5.41.02.14.   Click "Apply" and "OK".  You should now be setup to use ROV.

Let me know if you run into any issues.

    Regards,

    -Jon
