CCS v4 - issue installing the latest version

Expert 6635 points
Dear Champs,
customer has issues when installing CCS v4, latest edition. they are trying to install a new version of CCS4 after having already the older one installed. Perhaps this caused an issue, so they uninstalled again, cleaned up the registry, and tried reinstalling, but there is still the similar problems below the issues they have now

(A) I deleted the registry entires but I left those in relating to CCS3.3 which I am still using.

(B) I uninstalled & deleted the directories then reboot.

(C) On install it shows error message as attached saying it detects an exisiting installation, but there is no such folder.

(D) Therefore I created a new install folder.

(E) On install into the new folder got error messages as attached relating to compiler.reg

(F) I can add the entries compiler.reg manually OK.

Using the above it seems to work. Though I have a problem running the processor simulators & trying to solve that.

The install is now not in the default directory & I still had to manaully add the compiler registry entries.

is this a known issue or has been observed before? any suggestions on how to cure this? is there a way to completely clean the installation, besides from cleaning the registry entries HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\GODSP and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Texas Instruments

Thanks
Giancarlo

  • Hi Giancarlo,

Other than maybe some CGT entries, CCSv4 should not be using the Windows registry. You shouldn't have to do registry cleanup after uninstalling ccsv4. Usually just dealing any left over files in the folder is enough. The only issue with installing another CCSv4 install is if you try to install over an existing install (same directory).

The compiler.reg... that was to add registry entries as needed by 3.3. I think they come with v4 but I don't think it is necessary for them to run? I'll need to check on that...

  • Hi Ki,

below the last feedback from the customer on this:

CCSv4 is using the registry because I find references to it there. The compiler.reg files refer to CCSv4 so I assume they are required.

If I install without executing these manually then CCS will not compile files but with no notification of this.

The above has now cost me at least a day installing & reinstalling numerous times and debugging your install. I just want to get on and develop some code for which I may get paid by the customer, not just get late on the project because of these simple issues :-)

Perhaps it would be useful if the issues I have found could be fixed so others do not have the same problems. I still cannot install CCS in its default folder on this machine.

  • Those registry entries are only needed for 3.3. The reason why they show up for v4 is that we are using the same CGT installers that we use for 3.3.

Regarding the issue with detecting the existing install... there must be some leftover install files. Sounds like they had some install failures in the past or did something not recommended (like installing over an existing install).
