Cannot load program despite project building successfully

First of all I'm using code composer studio version 3.1,I cannot upgrade to version 6 because the computers in the lab are still using windows XP for technical reasons which aren't very clear to me.

Am following the user guide and after I successfully built the program without errors,It won't load,well the load program option is disabled and I do not know what caused this.Can't find anything online either.

    I have read a post before, whereas someone installed CCS version 6 at Windows XP. See, if you can do that also.

    Is there a status listed down at the bottom left of the main CCS window?  Been ages since I have run CCSv3.x but I am suspecting that CCS has not yet connected to the target.  There should be an option to do that on the Debug menu.
