F28377 Not Present in Device List with XDS510USB under Linux

Using CCS 6.0.1 under Linux.  F28377 does not show up in list of selectable boards and devices when I chose Spectrum Digital XDS510USB Emulator as the connection in the target configuration general window.  F28377 shows up when running CCS 6.0.1 under Windows.

I am able to select F28377 when using XDS100v2 connection under Linux but it is slower than I'd like.

How can I update list of selectable devices to include F28377?

I would like you to check this thread: http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/p/329808/1149339.aspx

  • Hi,

It seems the F28377 has a slightly different type of CLA core that is not recognized by the Spectrum Digital device drivers in Linux - the sister devices F2803x, F2805x and F2806x are all supported by the XDS510USB.

I will double check with them, but apparently this may be an oversight as the Windows version properly supports the F28377 CLA core.

I also installed their latest device driver support (5.2.0.12) to no avail.

    I apologize for the inconvenience,

    Rafael

  • Hi Gautam,

I added the web site (http://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/non-esd/debugserver/55) mentioned in the referenced thread to the list of Available Software Sites and performed "Check For Updates".  Unfortunately, doing so did not update the list of selectable devices under XDS510USB to include the F28377 when running CCSv6 under Linux

  • Thanks for looking into this, Rafael.

  • Jim,

I received a reply from Spectrum Digital regarding this, and unfortunately these are not good news: the XDS510USB technology is not actively supported nowadays, only critical bugs are being addressed and only in Windows platform. That is the reason why Windows is not affected by this issue.

The XDS510USB JTAG debugger from Spectrum Digital is the only one that does not use TI's baseline device drivers, therefore all support decisions must come from them.

Unfortunately in this case our hands are tied.

I apologize once again for the inconvenience,

    Rafael

  • Ok, Rafael.  Do you have a recommendation for a reasonably priced JTAG emulator for C2000 that will work under Linux and Windows?  The XDS100v2 on the 28377D control card won't be capable enough for my longer term development work with the 28377.  Thanks!

  • Jim,

Given that you seem to have a CCS license (which XDS510USB requires), I would then recommend the XDS200-class. It is faster than any XDS510USB, a fraction of the price and has a very long roadmap.

Both Blackhawk and Spectrum Digital offer them. For details, check section 3 of the XDS200 page below:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS200

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael
