DRV8846 software sllc446a wont run under CCS 6

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8846EVM, DRV8846

Win 7 Home Premium SP1 AMD laptop 64 bit 16 Gb RAM 1.40 GHz AMD E-1

CCS6.0.1.00040 run in XP SP2 emulation

Installed CCS software per document sllu203.pdf, Appendix A Driver Installation Instructions.

There was no folder created C:\ti\guicomposer\webapps\

I created it and dropped the folder DRV8846EVM_GUIv1.0 into it, all the files and folders indicated are there in the correct order

launcher.exe does nothing but run the hourglass 3 seconds.

When I double click launcher, no new processes appear to start under Task manager

The board is not connected to the USB port (dont have board yet, trying to test the SW first)

Must it be connected before the Eval SW runs?

  • The users guide directs you to install the GUI Composer runtime and not Code Composer Studio (CCS).  Basically the runtime contains the portions of CCS needed to run GUI applications without the CCS environment.

    If you go to

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:GUI_Composer#GUI_Composer_Downloads

you can download the GUI Composer runtime.  It will install by default in c:\ti\guicomposer  Then you can copy the tool into the c:\ti\guicomposer\webapps folder.

Doing this I was able to get the GUI to come up without having the board connected.

You can run the GUI from within CCS.  Basically instead of copying the app into the guicomposer\webapps folder copy it into your CCS installation under \ccsv6\webapps.  Then run CCS and go to the View menu and select Applications -> DRV8846EVM_GUIv1.0

I would recommend running it with the guicomposer runtime as that is the way it was meant to be used.

  • John,

I followed the link in your companies pdf instructions (the ones you imply I didnt follow:)

YOUR COMPANIES WEBSITE AND EMAIL DIRECTED ME TO DOWNLOAD CCS. I did so.

From the pdf file sllu203.pdf Appendix A: (DRV8846 Eval Module)

"The link to GUI Composer Runtime is:
    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:GUI_Composer#GUI_Composer_Downloads"

That link points to this page:

    That page says:

    Downloads

    GUI Composer Downloads
    • GUI Composer is included with CCSv5.3 or greater. You can download Code Composer Studio which includes GUI Composer from the download site [1]

I followed your companies instructions to download CCS AND GUI COMPOSER by following your companies link
     which pointed to:

    processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Download_CCS

    ----------------------------

I downloaded off line and installed :

    6.0.1 6.0.1.00040 Aug 3, 2014

    Off-line Installers:
    Windows

    --------------------

I filled in the Export Control form page with Company and application data and received an authorization Email which said:

    -------------------------------------
"Your request for software has been approved. It was submitted by <redacted> on Sun Dec 14 14:05:31 CST 2014

Your download will be available from: https//wwwticom/licreg/productdownload.tsp?toP " <redacted>

    -----------------------------------

That link points to a page reading:

    -----------------

    Download

    - Please monitor the download process to completion.
    - Please close this window when download is complete.

Having trouble downloading? Click HERE to start download

    -------------------------------

The "HERE" link downloads CCS6.0.100040_win32.zip which I INSTALLED ACCORDING TO YOUR COMPANIES INSTRUCTIONS.

, I installed CCS according to instructions. The included README_FIRST indicates nothing about GUI composer

If the GUI Composer is in the .zip, where is it? If it is not included as your web page says, then FIX THAT PROBLEM.

Contrary to what your Companies website stated, the GUI Compser WAS **NOT** INCLUDED in CCS download.

Might someone fix your Companies on-line documentation or make sure the GUI composer is actually packaged with the CCS as your own webpage says?

Now, without lectures and thinly veiled accusations against a prospective NEW OEM CUSTOMER. how about fixing these erroneous web pages and without lectures

send me a LINK to download the GUI composer.

If that is not satisfactory to you, Ill take this up with TI's Corporate Management and suggest that your conduct is driving a new PROSPECTIVE OEM CUSTOMER

to contact ON Semiconductor or one of the other several companies that have similar products and that they hire better Customer Support personnell.

  • David,

I am sorry that you are upset. It was not my intention. I was merely pointing out that the Users Guide for the EVM GUI referred to the GUI Composer Runtime download site vs the Code Composer one. With the similarities in branding it is easy to mix them up especially if someone is new to our software offering. That is why I tried to explain the difference.

GUI Composer is available as part of Code Composer. How it is included depends on the version being downloaded. For Code Composer Studio v5 it is included directly in the installation. For Code Composer Studio v6 it is available via the App Center. Code Composer Studio v6 tries to reduce the overall download size and as a result some of the features have moved to the App Center so that they are downloaded when needed vs having everyone need to download them. I agree that the GUI Composer webpage should be updated to reflect this. I will ensure that it gets done.

The App Center can be accessed either from the Getting Started view that opened when you first started CCS or you can go to the View menu and select "CCS App Center". GUI Composer should show up in the first row.

Once again I apologize for upsetting you. I will forward this thread on to the community manager so that they can review it.

    Regards,
    John
