New user...can't connect to target after launching configuration - Fatal error during initialization, OCS

Hello!

I'm a new CCS4 user.  I've  set up a target configuration for the XDS100 USB Emulator wtih the USB Stick 5505 device.  I've saved the configuration and launched it.  Under View->Debug, I see the following:

Texas Instruments XDS100 USB Emulator_0/C55xx [Non-Project Debug Session]

- Disconnected Device

-- Thread [main] (Disconnected(Unknown))

--- 0 <symbol is not available> 0x000000

Texas Instruments XDS100 USB Emulator_0/C55xx (9:16:03 AM)

Texas Instruments XDS100 USB Emulator_0/C55xx: CIO (9:16:03 AM)

Then I clicked on "Target->Connect Target".  I get the following error:

C55xx: Error connecting to the target: Error 0x80000240/-604 Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS,

I'm stuck at this point!  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you,

Robert

  • Hi Robert,

    Could you provide the details described here;

    http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_CCS#Information_for_Support

    Thanks

  • Hi Ki,

    My version of Code Composer Studio is Version: 4.0.0.16000

    Since I can't connect to the target, I'd like to attach the <device>.ccxml file and the board configuration .dat file,

    but I don't know how to attach files to this reply.  How do I do this?

    Robert

  • To attach files, see the FAQ in the forum readme: http://e2e.ti.com/support/development_tools/code_composer_studio/f/81/t/3131.aspx

    Your version of CCS is a bit old. I'd also recommend updating to the latest version and trying again.

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi Ki!

    Thanks for responding.  I've been out of town over the weekend...sorry I'm late.  I had just updated my CCSv4!  Can you give me a link to the newest version...I think I updated it to an older version!

    Thanks for the info on how to attach files.  I tried to attach the file for my configuration...and it told me only certain kinds of files can be attached.  Unfortunately, .ccxml files aren't in the list!  Anyway, I opened it with WordPad and here's what's there:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>

    <configurations XML_version="1.2" id="configurations_0">

    <configuration XML_version="1.2" id="Texas Instruments XDS100 USB Emulator_0">

    <instance XML_version="1.2" desc="Texas Instruments XDS100 USB Emulator_0" href="connections\TIXDS100usb_Connection.xml" id="Texas Instruments XDS100 USB Emulator_0" xml="TIXDS100usb_Connection.xml" xmlpath="connections"/>

    <connection XML_version="1.2" id="Texas Instruments XDS100 USB Emulator_0">

    <instance XML_version="1.2" href="drivers\tixds100c55x.xml" id="drivers" xml="tixds100c55x.xml" xmlpath="drivers"/>

    <platform XML_version="1.2" id="platform_0">

    <instance XML_version="1.2" desc="USBSTK5505_0" href="boards\usbstk5505.xml" id="USBSTK5505_0" xml="usbstk5505.xml" xmlpath="boards"/>

    </platform>

    </connection>

    </configuration>

    </configurations>

    Can you tell why I can't connect?

    Thanks!

    Robert

  • All CCS versions are available here:

    http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Download_CCS

    In regards to attachments, it is best to zip up all files and attach the zip. Zip format is accepted.

    Thanks

  • Ki,

    From your link, it looks like the 4.1.1 is a patch.  Should I install the 4.1.0 or the 4.1.1 version?

    Also, the first time I installed, there were a lot of components to select.  If I'm just using the eZDSP tool (XDS100 emulator), I don't know which components to install...some seem generic and some seem to be device-specific...but I don't think I can correctly choose all of the time.  Should I just install everything?  I'm worried about installing too many things...it will make my registry large and will slow down my machine boot, etc..

    Thank you,

    Robert

  • That link is actually the 4.1.1 full install. For a patch update, you can use the Eclipse Update Manager (Help->Software Updates->Find and Install) and Search For NEW Updates to Install.

    If you are using the C55x with XDS100, you can do a custom install and just install C55 ISA and XDS100 emulation support. You can also choose to / not to install BIOS depending on if you want to use it or not. Also both BIOS versions (5.4 and 6.x) are installed, if you will only use one version, you can unselect the other.

  • Hi Ki!

    Thanks you for your reply.  I'll have to get to this later...now my battery backup is causing my new Dell 9000 to power cycle (bad!!).  I'm getting a new one from Amazon...it will take a week or so!   I need a continuous sine-wave output, not the stepped wave.  That's life, right?

    See you when I'm up and running again!
