importing ccs6 project into ccs5.5 cannot interpret metadata

so we had a project that was created for us and the people that created it started with a ccs6 project. we are still using ccs5.5 and are not looking to move to ccs6 yet.  when i try to import that ccs6 project into ccs5.5 it gives the error of unable to interpret meta data.  is there a way around this to recreate their project through the import process or will i have to manually create a new project and try to recreate it with their source files?
