CCS 4.1

Below a couple of questions from a customer

I'm writing this letter to ask a few questions related to the new Code Composer Studio, i.e. version 4.

Well, we currently consider replacing the Code Composer Studio v3.x with Eclipse, at least for editing the code.
I must admit, however, that it would be nice to both edit and debug the code using the same tool and therefore I'm looking for some more details about the new Code Composer Studio and its compliance wth Eclipse.

I would be grateful if you could answer the questions below.
Can you tell me what "based on Eclipse" means?
Does the CCS work with plugins developed for Eclipse for C? Is it designed for that?
How much will we have to pay if we decide to replace the CCS 3.x with the new version?

CCSv4 was developed using Eclipse version 3.2.0 (Callisto) as a base platform for the Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Several modifications we done to the basic Eclipse, including the almost completely customized debugger, to meet the embedded development environment needs (speed, features, etc.).

CCSv4 supports several plugins developed for code editing and productivity (check this post for plugins that I use regularly), but just be sure to download the plugin designed to be used with Eclipse 3.2.0 (or 3.2.x). Most plugin developers will give the link to an update site, but it usually only contains the latest developed version for 3.4 or 3.5.

Several options are available (single-user, multi-user, node-locked or floating license, etc.), therefore I suggest you look at the Licensing page below, which explains the differences between the licenses. It also links to the CCS product folder for pricing information.

    Hope this helps,
