code composer studio licensing

We purchased code composer studio 6 IDE, Floating 1 User Pack about 6 months ago.

On Thursday May 6, I opened the shrink wrap, used the CD to install, and performed the activation procedure using the TI Activation ID inside the shrink wrap and the MAC address of my computer.  I received the license file by email, installed it, and the license displayed changed from Free License to show that it was now fully licensed, and it allowed use of my USB510 emulator. (In retrospect, this is perhaps surprising, since I did not try to install it on a license server.)

During the weekend, there was a power outage and my computer performed a reboot.  When I tried to enter code composer 6, it asked my to do an installation.  I reinstalled from the CD (uninstall did not work by the way).  This went OK, and the free version worked OK.  But when I entered the license file, it politely ignored this and continued to operate from the free license only.

I have tried getting a new license file, rehosting (with the same MAC address), but nothing works.  I have also tried the free 90 day evaluation, but this also does not work...says that it has already been used, which I do not think is true, since I have always used only version 3.3 of code composer until now.

In short, we purchased this product for $750, and after about 10 hours of tinkering, I have nothing that works.    Sort of disappointing after so many years of good experience with Code Composer 2 and 3.

What can I do to get Code Composer 6 running as quickly as possible?

Thanks

  • Hi,

Moving your post to right forum to be better answered.

  • For some unknown reason, after a couple of tries, the evaluation license is now operating, so I managed to connect with my target. If it continues to operate, I guess I have about 90 days to solve the issue of getting the paid license operating.

Perhaps the issue is this. We purchased the floating license for flexibility in the future. But for the moment, there is only one programmer, and the instructions for setting up a license server are ... well... not so simple, and so the question is whether we can just use it as a node-locked license until we have a need for the floating license capability.

My impression from last Thursday was that it was simple...just obtain a license file, save it, and enter it in Code Composer when it asks to specify a license file. It actually worked for a couple of hours. But now it does not work and provides no hints as to what is wrong.
  • Michael,

The floating license will require a license server to be setup for it to operate.  I can't explain why it worked for you on Thursday.  If you don't need to use a floating license right now what I can do is send you a private message with a code for a node locked license and then down the road when more developers start using CCS you can go through the process of setting up the license server.

Note that i fyou are currently using the 90 day license CCS will by default keep using that until the 90 days run out and then it will look for a new license.  Basically the way the license logic works is that as long as it has a license that satisfies the features you are tying to use then it doesn't look anymore.

I will send you a friend request.  Once you accept that I can send you a private message with a code for a node locked license.

    Regards,

    John
