Why does CCS close angle brackets when the option is switched off?

I'm using CCS Version: 6.1.0.00104 and I have gone to the preferences and unticked the option to automatically close angle brackets <, but it still does it. It makes it very irritating when what you want to type is <= .

The computer using window 7 64 bit.

    Andy,

    Interesting; in my CCSv6.1 I have these options enabled but in my case it seems it is smart enough to check the context and close the brackets only when applicable. Check the attached short clip.

    That said, can you try to see if you can reproduce this in a brand new workspace? The reason of my suspicion is that I have seen similar strange behavior when using a workspace originally created from previous releases of CCS.
