CCS Licence and Sitara CPU

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Hi,

We have some old 1-2 licences for CCS, which was acquired many years ago (when CCS was about 3.x or 4.x version). Right now we would like to start new project with Sitara/SYS-BIOS. Do we have to buy new license for CCS to use the newest features? I know there is free licence but it's code size limited, so I'm not interested in it.

What JTAG do you suggest? We have one spectrum digital C2000 JTAG (the old, very old one, about 6-8 years old).

First we will start software testing on development board like that one: www.ti.com/.../tmdxidk437x

  • Hi,

Download CCS v6.1.1 and try using the same old license.
    Check this link: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Licensing_-_CCSv6

  • Thank you for that link, it explained to me a lot of question marks with licensing.

Unfortunately, we don't have active subscription, so it's impossible to gain full access to newest CCS version (6.x). The "transformation" from old licence to new one is only available with valid subscription (refreshed every year).
  • If you have a CCSv4 license then it should be ok with the latest CCSv6.1.1.  If you have a CCSv3 license then it will not work.

We no longer require you to maintain your subscription service.  Thus if you have a CCSv4 or later license then you can download and use the latest version of CCS.

As far as debug probe recommendations it varies by device family.  XDS200 is good for ARM based MCUs and C2000.  For MSP430 then the MSP-FET is the way to go.  If you are going to use a larger processor like Sitara then there are advantages to an XDS560v2 class probe.

The page here has some more info on choosing the appropriate debug probe:
