CCS hangs configuring debugger "(cannot be canceled)"

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-TS430RHB32A, MSP430I2020, MSP-FET, MSP-EXP430FR6989

CCS hangs quite often while I'm trying to build my code. There's a "Configuring Debugger" pop-up that says "Initializing MSP430 (Cannot be canceled)" but nevertheless has a button for "Cancel". If I let it, the blue progress bar will keep spinning for hours.

I'm running CCS (I think v6.1) with the MSP-FET and MSP-TS430RHB32A. An MSP430i2020 is in the socket.  This problem happens all the time.

In the past, I've killed CCS and unplugged & replugged the MSP-FET, but the last time I did that, it took me 20 minutes of trying various sequences to get it running again.  It's happening again right now and I don't know what to do.

Needless to say, I'm open to suggestions.
