ccsv6.1.2 with fedora 23 linux

Hello All,

I am trying to install ccsv6.1.2 under a fresh install of Fedora 23 and am having no luck.

I tried installing the dependencies are described here:

but I get the following error from dnf: Error: package cairo-1.14.2-2.fc23.i686 requires libfreetype.so.6, but none of the providers can be installed

I realize these instructions are for Fedora 22 and not Fedora 23, but I'm using them since there are no instructions for Fedora 23 and Fedora 22 is the closest.

I also tried just running the binary that is provided (ccs_setup_6.1.2.00015.bin) but it appears the binary does nothing, i.e., it just returns immediately to the command line.

I could go search for a repo (rpmfusion?) to find libfreetype.so.6, but I thought I'd inquire first if anyone has been successful installing under Fedora 23.

PS: If it matters, I only need the ARM Cortex A8 (Sitara AM335x) device installed.

Hi Randy:

Do you must use Fedora? I have used CentOS with CCS 6 for a long time and everything just fine. If you are using virtual machine, then you give it a try.

I don't use Fedora, but have seen a similar problem with the installer returning immediately if the dependencies for the installer are not installed - see ccs_setup_6.0.0.00175.bin silently exits on CentOS 6.5 64-bit if glibc.i686 or libX11.i686 not installed

Running cs_setup_6.1.2.00015.bin under strace may reveal what is causing it to return immediately to the command line.

Thanks for your responses, rcfocus and Chester.

I went ahead and dig some digging for the extra dependencies. It appears you must add the following two dependencies to the list of depencies shown for Fedora 22: freetype.i686, zlib.i686. Then when you perform the dnf install of the remaining dependencies for Fedora 22, there will also be quite a few other sub-dependencies which you should also install. After that, the binary runs and the software installs.

Correction: freetype.i686, bzip2-libs.i686

Also note that CCS requires an old version of libgcrypt: libgcrypt.so.11. This was not available under the fedora repos (that I could see), and I read where you can simply make a simlink to the new libgcrypt as follows (as root): ln -s /usr/lib/libgcrypt.so.20 /usr/lib/libgcrypt.so.11

Seems to work.

Hi rcfocus,

I really do prefer using my own native desktop (which has been Fedora for 10 years now and will remain so). It is just more convenient.
