Error during CCS Installation / Spectrum Digital Drivers

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I am stuck in a 'loop' now of uninstalling CCS - reinstalling it, and having the installation fail.

It started when I tried to re-run the installer to add the spectrum digital drivers.  I need the drivers for the XDS PROTRACE.

I hadn't installed CCS with SD drivers so I reran the installer.  Then I got an error while "Installing com.sd.ccstudio.emulation.win32" was running.

A small window appears that says "An error has occurred during installation" but doesn't give any more information.

If I hit OK ccs will start but the spectrum digital emulators do not show up in the target configuration file editor.

I have also tried from this point 'check for updates' and 'uninstall feature' then 'install new software'..   various ways to get rid of and refresh that com.sd.ccstudio.emulation.win32.     None work - all fail during the reinstall the same way as described above.

I've tried two different installation paths as well F:\ti and C:\ti .. no difference.   Running out of ideas.  Any thoughts?

(Also I can't find any *other* / standalone package to install the SD Drivers.  SD's website seems to stop in time at about CCSv4.
And the PROTRACE emulator isn't even listed as a product - which concerns me a bit.)

This is a screen cap of it getting stuck again (new install)

  • Hi Anthony,

Could you please zip up the contents of the <installdir>\ccsv6\install_logs* folders and post them here. The spectrum digital log files can be found in c:\program files\installjammer registry (program files (x86) if you're on a 64 bit machine). Please note the "installjammer registry" folder is hidden.

I'll take a look and let you know what's going on.

    Thanks

    Danish

  • Hi Danish,

    Thanks!

Here are the files from last night's install attempts.

I did try uninstalling/reinstalling just the SD component after the first try failed to complete - so that may explain some of the logs that

mention the package already being installed.

    Best Regards,

  • Danish,

I noticed in one of the logs that there is a C:\Program Files (x86)\Spectrum Digital folder mentioned.
I deleted this folder after uninstalling CCS and then the subsequent CCS install succeeded.

No idea what was in this folder causing the problem .. And didn't really even know the folder existed until I saw it in the log.

    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Anthony
  • Glad to hear it worked out!
  • Thanks Danish,

Still a bit painful - especially that the error message didn't give any indication of what the problem was.
Don't know if there's anything you can do in the installer to help with this.

Underlying issue may be having different versions of code composer studio installed. This is fine if you install them in separate folders, but it appears that the fixed C:\Program Files (x86)\Spectrum Digital folder that is shared may be the problem. Which version of CCS gets control of this folder for example?
  • I understand. I'll forward the problem to the right sources and see if we can figure it out.

  • I just had the same issue again w. CCSV7.

    the sd_emupack_setup_5.2.0.14.exe file would fail.

I deleted c:\Program Files (x86)\Spectrum Digital again and the install still failed.

But this time in a more graceful way where the installer told me to go to C:\ti\ccsv7\installers

and try manually.    Not sure why it doesn't do this if the C:\Program Files (x86)\Spectrum Digital folder already exists...

    I ran the installer manually.

       1) it was detected as compatability mode for windows XP  :(   not encouraging.

       2) it defaults to installing itself into C:\ti\ccsv5\ccs_base which seems wrong for ccsv7

       3) fixing 1&2 it did install ok seemingly

BTW I am unable to disable symantec due to IT security reasons even temporarily.

I had to get a Windows Admin to uninstall Symantec long enough for me to install CCS7 :(

Now I need to reinstall Symantec.

  • Hi Anthony,
I'm sorry you keep having these issues with the SD installer. Unfortunately, we don't build this in-house so I'm unable to help fix it. You should not have to uninstall Symantec or turn it off. The AV warning is just that, a warning, because we have experienced issues with some anti-virus software before, but Symantec has no problems with CCS.

  • Hi Danish,

I think you're right that the issue seems to be in the sd_emupack installer.

The problem w. the AV virus warning is that so many installers fail  (during updates especially) the warning always seems like a possible

'cause'  of the failures.   And failed upgrades seem to degrade the CCS installation's stability.

    Manually deleting the C:\Program Files (x86)\Spectrum Digital  folder does the trick for getting this but I forgot I ran into the issue before;

and didn't try it till I found this old post.

Maybe it would at least make sense to consider adding this workaround to an error message if this particular emupack doesn't install?

  • You're right, the workaround might be a good option for the main installer. I'll request it for the next release.
