Another a floating license problem

Hi,

first I want to say that the (floating) license system is a s***, f***, *** system

I'm absolutly not amused, to spend two hours of my time for such a system.

First you have to grap the software from different sites read the documentation (of the license system), install and try to run the license server,

and in the end it is not running.

I don't want to know how it works in detail, I only want to link my code.

But the Code Composer only says "exceeds code size limit", but it is always able to get one of the important "CCS_DEBUGGER" licenses at startup,

but it never gets one of the "CCS_LINKER_FULL" licenses.

The CCS shows that it is licensed in the window title bar, but from where or so you can only guess, or if the connection to the server fails, is used or is ignored.

Thanks for such a good system

  • Jan,

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble.  I suspect that you have the wrong CCS image installed.

You are getting the "exceeds code size limit" message because you have the code size limited linker installed and have exceeded the limit allowed by that linker.  That message has nothing to do with the license management system.

I am not sure where you got the CCS image you installed.  The one that comes on the DVD when you buy a floating license pack for CCS should not have the limit on it.  If you go to the CCS download page there are 2 images posted there.  One is the DVD image and one is the code size limited image.  Dropping in a license file into the code size limited tool will not remove the code size limit.

The only other thing I can think of is that you installed the full image over top of the limited one and the limited linker is still there.

  • Hi Jon,

    thanks for the response.

It is possible that I installed not the DVD-Version, I installed it from our network, don't even now that there exist different versons.

I will try to install it again from the DVD, but then I have to ask, why my version said, that it is licensed and it get a CCS_DEBUGGER license from the server, but not the CCS_LINKER_FULL one.

At this point a simple message could help, like "exceeds code size limit, this is the limited CCS-Linker version".

Or a screen that show the current licenses and the license server states (like connection problems or so).

And in my opinion, the main value of the license system is for TI (not for the user), so for the user, it should be as simple as possible.

It should be possible (for TI) to build an installation pack with sample scripts, and a one screen short explanation.

( I'm unable to download the lmadmin file from the external web site till now, it always fails)

What I see, feels like an open source software without any help, but perhaps my expectations are too high,

I should be happy that I don't need to build the license system on my own  :-)

    Regards,

    Jan

  • Jan,

Even though the license file contains CCS_LINKER_FULL it doesn't matter as the linker with the limit is physically different than the one that doesn't have the limit.  If you don't have access to the DVD you can get the image here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Download_CCS  It is likely newer than what is on your DVD anyway.

I have to admit that licensing is a pain, the error messages in the product could definitely be better.

    Regards,

    John

  • Thanks John,

    now it works,

but it is amazing, the studio never takes the CCS_LINKER_FULL license it only takes the CCS_DEBUGGER one (shown in the tidspssw window),

but now it can link my code.
