CCS v4 error: This project was created for a device-variant that is not currently recognized

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F233

A customer reports seeing this error message occasionally when CCS v4 is started:

Severity and Description Path Resource Location Creation Time Id
This project was created for a device-variant that is not currently recognized: MSP430F233. Please install the device-variant descriptor, or migrate the project to one of the supported device-variants.
enc4 project 1253728958686 1292

The only way he can get around this and build his project is by issuing the build command before the search for eclipse content completes when starting CCS4.

Can someone explain what this error means and how to resolve it?

Thanks.

  • Did you ever find a resolution to this issue?  I am having similar issues with an F5438A.  The only way I could find to get around it is to create a totally new workspace.

  • Gus,

Give 4.1 a try.  There was a timing issue with different threads in 4.0.x that can cause this to occur that has been fixed in 4.1.

  • John,

I downloaded and tried to install version 4.1 on my Windows XP PC.  I got the attached error during installation though.  The CCS installation seems to have frozen at the very last step, although I can see  run CCS v4 on my Start menu.  I did uninstall my previous version of CCS.
