MacOS CCS - change default file path

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Having just installed the latest version of MacOS CCS on OSX El Capitan I notice that on startup CCS created a folder in my home folder named "ti" and is storing some other folders and files in there which I presume are temporary working files. I would like CCS to use a folder of my choosing for these working files and by default any other files it may need to create.

Is there an easy way to change this default folder to something else (short of digging through the all preferences)?

Will CCS create ALL its folders/files there?

Is this "ti" folder going to be used by any other applications I might get from TI?

  • Hi,

The ti directory holds temporary files from different CCS components - some can be changed like CCSTargetConfigurations, but I am not aware of any specific switch or option that changes the temporary file placement of the other components (CCSActiveInstances, CCSExternalReferences, etc.).

Section 2.3 of the page below shows the different temporary directories of a typical CCS installation.

I will reply back if I find an option that changes this.

    Regards,
    Rafael
  • Greetings and thank you Rafael for your helpful answer and link to more info on the CCS installation folders.

As I am just getting familiar with Eclipse and CCS, I think I'll just leave things as they are for now as I learn more about the program.

If you might pass along a suggestion for the development folks, I would request that there be a single dialog page in the preferences that would allow the user to adjust the all the file paths for the application, including both the temporary folders/files and the persistent folder/files separately, except of course for those whose placement is required for compatibility with the host OS.

And if you would include a compliment, after installing the program and attaching the MSP-FET and target board, CCS updated the programmer firmware, compiled the demo MSP430 program and programmed the processor all without a hitch. Great job!

    Thanks again and Cheers!
  • I would like to suggest another approach for you to workaround the issue.

For my MacBook, I also encounter the same issue when Applications create lots of unwanted folder under my home directory. So, I put all my own projects, libraries and documents under "Documents" directory and leave home directory alone. Drag the Documents to "Favourites" in Finder. Then, in Finder, you can click on Documents to quick access your files.
  • Hello Robert and thank you for your suggestion. Although I am loath to give up control of my home directory I will probably do as you advised, or something similar, as that would be simpler and easier than wrestling with every application that wants to dump something in there. Cheers!

  • You are welcome.
