Setting break points and seeing breakpoint symbol in CCS 6.1.2 & 6.1.3

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: RM46L852

Hi,

I'm using CCS 6.1.3 with Hercules processor. If I double click in the margin as I've done with past versions of CCS (6.1.1) I now get a breakpoint symbol as shown here...

This break point has no effect (that is it doesn't break). If I right click in margin and choose HW break point, I get a breakpoint that shows up in the break point view and will halt the processor, but the symbol does not show up in the margin.

Setting the break point...

Halts, but one symbol in margin...

How do I get a HW break point by default when I double click in the margin?

How do I get the break point to be visible in the margin?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

  • Sorry, setting break point screen shot above should have shown the Hardware Breakpoint line highlighted.

Could you tell us which specific device and board you are using, so we can try to recreate the problem?

  • The processor is a Hercules RM46L852

The emulator is a BlackHawk 560v2-LAN System Trace emulator

The host OS is Ubunutu 14.04

The board is our custom target

    Hope this help,

  • Thanks for the details. One more question: is the project you are debugging a CCS project or a makefile based project?
  • Hi Michael,

From the 1st screen shot, your have set a CDT (eclipse) breakpoint and not a CCS Breakpoint. I am guess you are not using a standard CCS Project. You can enable CCS Breakpoint for non-CCS Project by right clicking on the project in the Project Explorer and select Properties..., than select Debug in the tree and check the 'Enable Code Composer Breakpoint Support' on the right pane. Now double clicking on the editor margin should set a CCS Breakpoint.

Setting a hardware breakpoint don't show an icon in the editor, this is a known issue and I am working on resolving this for CCS6.2.

To enable h/w breakpoint by default when double clicks in the margin. Launch a debug session and connect to the the device. Select Tools -> Debugger Options -> Misc/Other Options. And uncheck the 'Allow software breakpoints to be used' checkbox. Remember to press the 'Remember My Settings' button to save your change. Note that there is a limited number of h/w breakpoint one can use.

    Regards,
    Patrick

  • Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them.

To answer the previous question, I am using a make based build system and not a CCS project.
