DM365, NAND Flashing, XDS100v2 / free CCS4 & everything inbetween

Hi,

I am sampling some new NAND flash (Micron's MT29F8G08ABABA) to check compatibility with the DM365 & I am investigating my options re flashing. Currently my options are UART, Ethernet & JTAG. This post refers to my JTAG queries:

I have done some investigation into the available JTAGs and found that the XDS100v2 seems the most feasible (/cost effective) for my two tasks which are to 1) verify the integrity of the actual PCB (boundary scanning) & 2) the erase and program the NAND (UBL, uBoot, Kernel & FIlesystem). I am not interested in low level debugging at the moment. My questions are as follows:

- Is the XDS100v2 the guy for me to achieve the above tasks?
- Will I get away with doing the above tasks using the free unlicensed version of CCS4? I have read the that this free license is "limited" but cannot find out exactly what this limit implies ? Its not 'time' is it?
-Is it possible to use the XDS100v2 to perform the above tasks in a production (dos based) environment without using CCS?
-Is there anything worth considering when deciding where to buy it from ie Blackhawk vs TI vs any of the other manufacturers?

All input would be appreciated!

    Nick,

    When you download the DVD image for CCS and install it one of the options you get in the license dialog is to "use free limited license".  The limitation with this license is that it will only work with XDS100, simulators and onboard emulation on some EVMs/DSKs.  I.e. the restriction is the connection.  It doesn't have any expiry or code size limitation.

    For the question as to being able to do things outside of CCS using XDS100.  Using Debug Server Scripting you can do pretty much anything you can do inside CCS from a script outside of CCS.  http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Debug_Server_Scripting

    CCS needs to be installed as this interface scripts the debugger but you don't have to be running the GUI.

    Thank you for your two responses! I will go ahead & order an XDS100v2. My final question in my previous post was with regard to differences in XDS100v2's from various manufacturers. The following are offered:

    Ashling's Opella-XDS100v2 @ $95 (TI 14way & compact TI 20way included - confirmed 64bit Windows 7 compatibility)
    Blackhawk's XDS100v2 @ $99 (TI 14way & compact TI 20way included - uncertain re 64bit Windows 7 compatibility)
    Spectrum Digital XDS100v2 @ $89 (TI 14way included - uncertain re 64bit Windows 7 compatibility)
    TI's XDS100v2 USB JTAG emulator @ $79 (TI 14way included - uncertain re 64bit Windows 7 compatibility)
    TI's XDS100v2 USB JTAG emulator @ $79 (TI compact 20way included - uncertain re 64bit Windows 7 compatibility)
    Embest XDS100v2 @ $69 (14way header - uncertain re 64bit Windows 7 compatibility)

    My main concerns are regarding the Windows 7 compatibility & I have thus far only received confirmation of compatiblity back from Ashling's. Is there anything else I should bare in mind in selecting an XDS100v2 or are they all much of a muchness?

    Nick,

    All the XDS100's use the same CCS driver stack and windows usb driver so the OS compatibility is the same for all of them.  I have a couple boards here with XDS100's embedded on them and I use them with my Win7 64 laptop.
