CCSV3 to CCSV6 Migration

CCSv3 and newer CCS releases used different types of licensing. For CCSv6 you need a license file. I sent you a friend request. If you accept that I can send a private message with the instructions.

One more question ,this CCS version Migration will not impact the code right? or will be there any compilers APIs /macros changes required in the code,so I have to reimplement some part of the code  ?

As far as code migration going from CCSv3 to CCSv5 or 6 is a big step. If you found steps for going to v5 those will be essentially the same as for v6. Is your current application based on DSP/BIOS? If so that may be one of your biggest tasks as a lot of has changed for BIOS since the CCSv3.3 days.

Which DSP are you using? The answer varies depending on which DSP family is in use.

For example for C55x the latest version of BIOS is DSP/BIOS 5. For most C6x devices you can move to SYS/BIOS 6: www.ti.com/.../spraas7

For our multicore keystone devices then TI-RTOS (builds on top of the SYS/BIOS kernel) is the latest. Typically it is bundled as part of the Processors SDK.

The team in the TI-RTOS forum would be the best resource for migration.

I would definitely recommend running through one of the CCSv6 fundamentals workshops here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Category:CCS_Training

The CCSv6 environment is quite a bit different and the workshops can help you get used to the changes.

Hi Karthrick,

In the past year I have been involved in converting a project from 3.3 to 5.5, we actually have numerous projects which are a mix of 3.1, 3.3, 5.5 and 6.1 CCS as well as 3 non TI compilers.

It's a significant effort, depending on how well you understand your code set.  Give yourself enough time for testing etc.

I really like the new Eclipse based Code Composer, it's more powerful and has a broader range of features but it will take time to get used to it.

There isn't a simple set of steps.  Much of it is going to depend on what device you are on, what other software packages you are using...

As far as learning CCSv6 the best first step is to check out the training site here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Category:CCS_Training

For migrating your project there is an import wizard that helps with the project conversion but there will be additional steps required.

Are you using DSP/BIOS?  The link below will help with some of that migration.  This guide covers DSP/BIOS to SYS/BIOS.  TI-RTOS is what we recommend today which is essentially SYS/BIOS with extra stacks and drivers available.

There is a topic talking about the move from v3 to v4 which is relevant.

Depending on the device you are using the compilers have changed quite a bit as well.

There is a wizard to import legacy CCSv3 projects:
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Importing_CCSv3_Projects_into_CCSv4

Note that the above link is for CCSv3->v4 migration. v6 will look different. But the wizard is still there and accessible in the same way.
