Make Windows 10 auto-recognize and open .project with a Default Application

I am having trouble setting Windows 10 to automatically open my .project, .cproject and .ccsproject files with Notepad or Notepad++, their interface for 'Default Apps->Choose default apps' does not appear to allow adding these file types.

Has anyone successfully completed this? Thoughts?

  • Hello,
    Try the following:
    1) right-clicking on the file in windows explorer
    2) choose "Open with' in the context menu
    3) select "More Apps"
    4) If available, select Notepad++ from the list of applications. If not available, select "Look for another app on this PC" and browse to the location of the Notepad++ exe
    5) Done

Note: make sure the "Always use this app to open file" check box is always enabled.

    Thanks

  • Hi Ki-Soo,

That there is my key issue, the checkbox for "Always use this app to open file" is not present! See attached. Thoughts?

  • Hello,

I'm not sure why you do not see the option like below:

This is more of a Windows issue and not CCS. You may want to check with Microsoft support.

One thing that came to mind - what permissions do you have? I have admin permissions.

    Thanks

  • Wow, thank you for the suggestion to contact MS Support!!!! Here was their response -

"You dont have to worry because this is a well known issue here in Microsoft and i encountered a lot of issues like this before and most of the time i resolved it by performing system file checker or inplace installation"

They then had me perform the full "Windows 10 System Update", and magically it was resolved, immediately.

    Thank you!!
