Enable XDS200 User CDC serial port output

Hi!

I would like to use the the XDS2xx User CDC serial port for serial communication to my target during debugging, but I do not know if I have to do anything to enable it or what pins are TX and RX. I have not found any real documentation on this feature of the XDS200.

I am trying to use the XDS200 "XDS2xx User CDC serial port (COM4)" referenced in the "Hardware"-tab on "XDS2xx USB Emulator - Composit Properties" in the Windows control panel. I send data to COM4, but do not see any pin activity when probing the EMU-pins on the XDS200 cable. What am I missing here?

I am running XDS200 firmware, 1.0.0.8 on a Spectrum Digital XDS200, Windows 10 in a VM.

Regards,

Sigve

  • Hi Sigve,

Recently, I have similar experience on a new Spectrum Digital XDS220 ISO debugger. In order to solve some problems related to XDS220, I have emailed to Spectrum Digital several times. But I didn't get proper answer and service. I have to say, the customer service is really bad. So, I won't buy any Spectrum Digital products in the future if there is other choices.

For my XDS220, the UART wires are not physically connected inside the debugger. Spectrum Digital has reserved 0-ohm resistors but not soldered. So, I open the housing of debugger and solder the resistors manually. And it works.

You can check the XDS200 user's manual. If you are lucky then you will see a page about the internal circuit. Then, you can know the actual serial port connection inside the debugger. But if there is not related information, then you have to email to Spectrum Digital.
