Does XDS200 work with CCS V6 on a mac?

I am trying to connect a Spectrum Digital XDS200, using CCS V6, on a mac.  I get an error message like the following:

Error initializing emulator:
(Error -2083 @ 0x0)
Unable to communicate with the debug probe. Confirm debug probe configuration and connections, reset the debug probe, and retry the operation.
(Emulation package 6.0.228.0)

I do not get this error message using CCS V6 under windows.

Is there a mac OS related issue?

Thanks!

  • Hi,

XDS200 debug probes are supported under OS X, and the error message indicates there is an issue between the host and the debug probe.

In this case, I strongly recommend reading the reference below for additional details about the error and several troubleshooting steps - pay special attention to cabling, drivers and firmware.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi Rafael,

Thanks for the tip. I believe I have traced the problem down to the USB hub built into my Apple display. The XDS200 seems to be having problems with the hub. A direct connection does work.

The link you pointed me to says a problem could be "The USB is connected via an incompatible USB HUB or port." Do you know if there is a list of USB hubs that will work?

    Thanks!

    All the best,
    Ray
  • I have my XDS220 connected through the USB hub inside DELL display. One of the USB ports is failed, but other ports work well. So, you can try to use other ports. If all are failed then you have to buy a standalone USB hub.
  • Ray,

Thank you for reporting back your findings.

Unfortunately it is difficult to have a comprehensive list of compatible USB Hubs due to the large variance of quality and features available in the marketplace. In this case the only thing possible is to report back (just like Robert did above) the models that work for us.

The ones I use here regularly are: Dell E-Port replicator (tied to my notebook); Dell 2208WFP integrated hub; D-link DUB-H7; Belkin F4U018-BLK; Anker A7505112; Inland 4-port USB3.0 hub (although this brand redesigns their products often, thus making it difficult to predict if the newer revision is fully compatible).

One detail: depending on the firmware version, XDS200 may fail to be properly recognized when plugged to USB3.0 ports. In this case you can try to update its firmware with the latest revision 1.0.0.8 and retry. This is mentioned in the XDS200 page at:

  • Hi Rafael,

Thanks for the list.  This is very helpful.  Might you have used any of these hubs with a mac?

I have upgraded the firmware with revision 1.0.0.8.  I also have a powered USB 3.0 hub.  Mine is a Belkin F4U058tt.

My situation is that I can connect to an XDS200 if it is directly connected to my MacBook Pro.  It seems to be that, once I put a hub in the path, the XDS200 is not recognized.

Your feedback has been very helpful.  I am working through this issue since I am looking at using the XDS200 in my class and I need to be able to understand the different situations in which the XDS200 works best.  My students will be on Windows, OS X, and Linux.  It's been great to see the support for these platforms continue to improve.

Thanks again and let me know if you have used any of these hubs with a mac.

    All the best,

    Ray
