Bug? Print Margin not updating as expected

For some unexpected reason my print margin in the text editor of CCS is fixed to 80 characters, see below. Why is this at 80 as shown below, and not the specified value of 135? How to correct?

I have reproduced the same configuration in Eclipse CDT and observed the expected result. What do I need to correct in CCS to get this working :)??

Hi,

Yes, that seems to be a bug in Eclipse Mars (4.5) as reported in the bugzilla below:
bugs.eclipse.org/.../show_bug.cgi

At the moment there is no target milestone to get it fixed and I can't find a workaround.

I can confirm this does not happen with Eclipse Luna (4.4) that is used by CCSv6.1.2.

I will bring this to the attention of our dev team, but we don't have full control over the turnaround to implement a definitive fix to open source components.

Can you try the change described in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=468307#c10 of editing the org.eclipse.cdt.core.formatter.lineSplit preference to set the desired print margin?

With CCS 6.2.0.00050 I found that:

1) The Print Margin set under General -> Editors -> Text Editors didn't apply to all type of file. E.g. when the Print Margin was set to 132 if edited a linker .map file the print margin was displayed at 132 characters, but if edited a .c source file the print margin was displayed at 80 characters.

2) When opened the .metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings\org.eclipse.cdt.core.prefs file the org.eclipse.cdt.core.formatter.lineSplit was set at a value of 80. When org.eclipse.cdt.core.formatter.lineSplit was changed to 132, and the CCS restarted the displayed print margin in .c source files was then 132.

Wow, this works!! :)!

I updated the org.eclipse.cdt.core.formatter.lineSplit value in the .metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings\org.eclipse.cdt.core.prefs file, restarted CCS and the print margin is now at the correct value!

This works for where the print margin line is displayed, but does not change the value in General -> Editors -> Text Editors -> Print margin column. Strange, but easily (manually) fixed ;)

is it just me, or is there anyone else who repeatedly encounters this bug? Weekly it seems, and each time I have to return to this thread for correction. sheesh!

hah! I literally just had to fix this again within the last hour, but my goto for finding the fix is this thread: bugs.eclipse.org/.../show_bug.cgi

This is super annoying.

Where does this file live in CCS7?

Where can is the .metadata folder found?

This problem is still happening, but the link Aaron supplied doesn't work. Does this mean the Eclipse team already fixed the bug?

Peter,

You need to go to your workspace folder. This is typically in your user folder. The name of the workspace is shown in the top left corner of CCS. Once you are in your workspace folder then go to
.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings
Open org.eclipse.cdt.core.prefs
Search for lineSplit
