Target must be connected before loading program

OS: Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit

CCS: 6.1.3.00033

Device/Board: 2x SmartRF06 with CC2650EM-7ID, XDS100v3

Issue:

After using the above system and components without issue for a number of months, I am no longer able to load any new code onto either of my CC2650EM's via the SmartRF boards. I don't recall making any changes to the system so I am at a loss as to what to try next. When I try to debug, I get the following two messages in the Console:

Cortex_M3_0: GEL Output: Memory Map Initialization Complete.
Texas Instruments XDS100v3 USB Debug Probe_0/Cortex_M3_0 : Target must be connected before loading program.

I've perused the forums here a bit and did not find anything obvious that would help.

"Launching the debugger" and "connecting to the target" are distinct items. It sounds like perhaps you're not doing the second one. Directions on how to do it (for a different core, but same procedure) can be found here:

If that doesn't help, I suggest posting a screenshot of your CCS during the issue.

Hi Adam,
Did you recently take an update for CC13xx/CC26xx Device Support? There was an issue where that update was made accidentally available for CCS versions 6.1.3 (and earlier). This update is only for 6.2.0 and will break debug for CC13xx/CC26xx devices on CCS versions earlier than that. See the thread below:

Note that instead of reinstalling CCS 6.1.3 again, you can uninstall the update and reinstall the older correct version. Let me know if you wish to go this route instead.

It is my understanding that CCS and the project I happen to be trying to load/run automatically attempt to connect to the target when launching the debugger.

I have previously tried the process manually connecting to the target suggested in the link you provided and CCS crashes when this happens. Images below, first after clicking the Debug/F11, and then after trying to 'Connect Target'.

I thought I had read through that article and determined it wasn't the issue...but it seems like I should check again as I may have misunderstood something.

The best way to check is go to 'Help -> Installation Details' and check the version of CC13xx/26xx device support. If it is 2.x or greater, you have the wrong version (like below):

Assuming you are Running CCS on Windows, please extract the attached zip file into the following location: <CCS6 INSTALL DIR>\ccsv6

/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/81/cc26xx_5F00_device_5F00_support_5F00_1.20.00.03_5F00_win32.zip

Note that you want to extract the contents to the 'ccsv6' directory. For me, I use "Extract Here" option in the context menu (I use 7-zip). Basically inside the zip file is a 'ccs_base' folder and you want to merge the contents in there with the existing 'ccs_base' folder inside the 'ccsv6' folder. If you see any warning about overwriting existing files of the same name, please agree.
