Generating .bin for CC3200 Launchpad file in CCS Cloud

Hi,

I'm using CCS Cloud tool to experiment with the CC3200 Launchpad, but I can't figure out how to write the application image to the flash such that it boots from up upon reset. Does the Cloud tool support generation of a .bin file that can be used to write to flash?

Hi Brent,

I'm going to move this to the CCS forum. You'll get a better answer from them about the cloud tool functionality.

I haven't tried this myself since we usually expect customers to use non-cloud tools outside of basic debug and testing. I know you can get the .out from CCS cloud.

Unfortunately CCS Cloud does not provide a way to generate a .bin, just the .out.

The desktop version of CCS comes with tools for generating the .bin, specifically obj2bin. Alternatively that utility is also available via:
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Code_Generation_Tools_XML_Processing_Scripts

Just so I understand, it is not possible to write the image to flash using the cloud version of CCS, correct? CCS cloud only supports loading the image into the device, but is lost upon reset or power cycle.

I'm somewhat new to working with mcu's.

Hi Brent,

Yes, the CC3200 uses an external serial flash to store the MCU image and it can't be written to directly using CCS or CCS Cloud. CCS Cloud loads the binary to the CC3200 RAM where it executes and will be lost upon reset.

You would have to obtain the .bin and use UniFlash.
