CCS6.0 slowing down in debug perspective

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28335

Hi Team,

My customer experiencing serious slow down when they are doing debuging.

They are debugging TMS320F28335, and this slow down occurs when they are watching over 100 variables data through Expressions.

When they were using CCSv5.5, they didn't experienced this, but as they upgraded their CCS to 6.0.0.00190, this happens.

Debugger is XDS510 and XDS560, and refresh timing is 100ms.

Here are their questions.

1. Will this problem be sloved if they upgrade CCSv6.0 to CCSv6.2?

2. Is there any other way to solve this?

  • Ted,

I haven't heard any reports about that, therefore it is hard to say that a simple update will improve things. They can install CCSv6.2 in a separate directory and use a different workspace - several versions can coexist in the same host. To automatically add the variables to the expressions view in the new workspace they can follow the method shown in the post below:

Keep in mind that many things affect the performance of the debugger. From the IDE perspective leaving views opened such as the Memory Browser, Disassembly, the Expressions view (as you reported) influence the update rates - even the size of these views displayed in the screen matters, as it affects the amount of data actually being updated.

To update 100 variables at every 100ms is not an easy task, therefore I ask: did they resize the Expressions view to show all 100 variables at the same time? That would be critical to reproduce this issue here.

Also, what operating system are they using?

    Regards,
    Rafael
