Hi C2000 expert,

Is there any alternative way, such as, UART/I2C, to debug firmware? Currently I'm using JTAG to view/modify some variables, but it will cause my power stage damaged if CPU is halted by somehow. This is the reason why I don't want to use this way.

I know that TI has an another digital power controller, UCD3138, which provide a GUI and firmware that could support on-line debugger via pmbus interface. I would like to know if our C2000 controller would have similar way or not?

I see that there is an alternative way of enabling UART in ccs to debug, can you please guide me on how to use this? That would be perfect if you have document.

Hi Jack,

We do not have debug tool which uses UART/I2C. I am going to move this post to our CCS support team to see if they have some suggestions on this.

Jack,

If your concern is mainly with viewing/modifying variables without halting the processor, then F28x devices do have support for "real-time mode" that allows for this.
This training module that contains some information on how to enable and use this in CCS:

Thanks for your reply.

If the real time mode is enabled, then I have to add a isolator between the device and my computer to avoid the noise to corrupt my PC.

But the isolator is already on my UART interface, and I think CCS is also support this. In addition, I see there is wiki page that contains how to use UART for debug at below link, why does this method can't be used? Can you please let me know what's your concern?
