Any reason to get CCS for DM365?

I downloaded and installed CCS4 for the 30 day eval.  I have a EVMDM365 board and a XDS510-USB2.  However, I can't see that there are any setup or configuration files that support this development platform.

I know that all of the software development is for a Linux target (in my case).  So I'm wondering if CCS4 offers any value for development and debugging of software for the DM365.

Our TI rep seemed to think it would be useful.  But I'm not so sure.  Any comments?

  • John,

To date DVSDK is entirely built from command-line scripts.

For developers working on DaVinci platforms CCSv4 is useful to perform some very specific tasks like reflashing the EVM board or device-level debugging (see registers, debug the linux kernel, etc.).

Also, an added feature that started with version 4.1.3 is the ability to perform linux aware debugging for ARM9 cores. Check the page below for additional details:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Linux_Aware_Debug

Therefore the use of CCSv4 is not entirely mandatory but a "nice to have" tool if you ever have the demand for low-level application or OS debugging.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Thanks desouza,

I'll be taking another route for dev and debug.  Once I've evaluated it, I post a review in the DM3xx forum.
