CCS: XDS200 minimum clock speed, max cable length

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi team,

Do you happen to know of a listing for the lowest JTAG clock speed and max cable length for the (Spectrum Digital) XDS200? I feel like there are so many other variables involved, tolerances, marginal layouts, etc that this would be hard to have. We had a customer ask if we could provide this. They were looking to see if 50kHz  or lower is achievable and at what max cable length. I have been thru the XDS200 wiki, XDS performance wiki and XDS target connection wiki and nothing is really firm that I see.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

  • The XDS200 has been validated to operate with TCK set to 50 kHz.  You should be able to set the speed even lower; the target configuration doesn't validate the input.  It says the lower limit is 50 kHz because that is the lowest we actually tested, but you can try lower values.

We don't maintain a spec on max cable length because that's highly dependent on the TCK speed and target board loads.  Even with slow TCK speeds, JTAG cables should probably not exceed two feet.

  • Thanks a bunch for that Edward!
