CCS: Error: Import failed ... compiler definition is not available.

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Full error:

Error: Import failed for project 'SRAMcode_IOPins' because its compiler definition is not available. Please install the MSP430v15.12 compiler before importing this project - click 'View > CCS App Center' to check if compiler updates are available, or install the compiler manually and register it with CCS through 'Preferences > CCS > Build > Compilers'.

This occurred after new install of CCS 6.1.

I updated compiler per other e2e posts and have installed MSP430v15.12.4

I still receive the same error.

Thanks,

Wade

  • Wade,

Could you confirm that the compiler is actually installed and discovered by CCS? We have seen a couple of instances in the past where CCS shows a version as installed in the "Installed Software" list but it did not actually get installed properly.

Is there a directory under \ccsv6\tools\compiler for version 15.12.4 that contains the compiler installation? If not, the install did not complete properly for some reason.
And if you go to Window->Preferences->Code Composer Studio->Build->Compilers, do you see that version of the MSP430 compiler listed under "Discovered Tools"?

Another option (in the interest of time) would be to install CCS 6.2 in a different directory than CCS 6.1. CCS 6.2 comes included with MSP430 compiler version 15.12.3 so there wouldn't be the need to install anything extra.
