CCS/MSP430G2533: Error connecting to the target: Unknown device

I've been trying to program my MSP430G2533 with MSP-FET430UIF debug interface. I'm running CCS v7.1.0.00016. For now I'm just uploading a simple blink example that builds correctly.

I keep getting the following error:

Error connecting to the target:
Unknown device

And yes I've looked at a lot of other threads with similar problem...

The computer recognizes the device, all drivers are up to date and this should be working! I managed to make it work for a brief amount of time, but then all of a sudden this error came back and now I've been reading all other threads that mention similar problem and nothing seems to work.

can anyone recommend a solution for this ?

Hergils,

I haven't had any luck reproducing this. I have been able to connect with a G2533 configured with the same version. I have asked someone with more expertise on the MSP430 debug stack to help out.

I did not find why this was happening but managed to fix it: I was running this on Windows 10, but switched to Linux, installed CCS v7 again and now it works fine...

That is quite odd. When using the FET on Linux did CCS prompt to update the firmware?

Hi Hergils,

I know you've said that the drivers are up-to-date but it would be good to download them from the MSPDS tools page just to make sure. Have you also tried using the downgrade/upgrade tool? processors.wiki.ti.com/.../MSPDS_Debugger_Up-_and_Downgrade

Another test would to attempt communication using the FET-Pro430 or IAR software. One last note that the MSP-FET430UIF is NRND and is not available for purchase any longer. Support of this tool is becoming sparse as we recommend that users upgrade to the newer MSP-FET tool.
