CCS/TMS320DM642: CCS/TMS320DM642

Hi!
To my understanding, debug against simulator has nothing to do with device. When you debug device with emulator the code gets executed on the target. Emulation logic just gives you a tool to halt and resume processor as needed.

In CCS 3.3, I find that the interface always shows that the target board id connected even if both target board and XDS560R are both switched off. Also the "Disconnect" option in the Debug Menu is disabled.

Please help.

This is the way it happens with simulator. When you change for real hardware target, you'll have an option to connect/disconnect, and that time powering your emulator and/or target would matter.
Once again, you might be missing, that simulator is kind of tool letting you model target behaviour on your PC without target itself and emulator too.

What makes me think this is that although everything is working fine, I am not able to glow a LED using the board. While debugging, it goes through the command without actually lighting up the LED. This makes me think if the program getting executed on the board or just getting simulated on the PC .

I am also getting an error "RTDX target application doesnot match emulation protocol. Loaded program was created using an rtdx library which doesnot match the target device".

Does this have anything to do with the problem?

If your config as on the screenshot above, it has nothing to with the board. Simulator is a computer model. If you want to execute code on the target, then run CCS Setup again, delete simulator but add your target and emulator.

So now I got your point. I have to use an emulator instead of a simulator. I have tried a lot of emulators. None seems to be compatible with TMS320DM642. Can you suggest one.

Just let me make sure: emulator is hardware box you plug one side through USB/PCI/LAN to your PC and another side with special header you connect to emulation pins on you board. If so, there could not be that may emulators. Most popular are XDS510 and XDS560, aka debug probes.
Please refer support.spectrumdigital.com/.../, table 2. To setup you connection you have to go with C64xx family. In other words, there would be no specific DM642 device, instead you proceed with C64xx.

Thanks I got your point. I have an emulator which is SD XDS560R. When I am connecting with the best possible configuration, I am getting the following error.
"Error connecting to the target:
Error 0x80000240/-466
Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS,
This error was generated by TI's USCIF driver."

Unfortunately you are using a combination of tools that ceased to be supported a long time ago.

I searched around on the internet but could not find many references to error 466. The thread below that may help you with configuration and other details.

There are other threads that deal with error 466 are not relevant as they deal with a different JTAG debug probe.
