CCS/MSP430FR5969: Problem using energy trace++ in code composer studio.

Part Number: MSP430FR5969
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello,

I am using MSP430FR5969 board and trying to measure power with energy trace tool.

Energy trace worked well before, but when I start running program, It is measuring voltage but not measuring current and power.

I attached the picture below.

Does anybody have an idea for this problem?

Best,

Mirae

  • Hi Mirae,
I assume the issue is that the "Power" and "Energy" tabs are not opening. Can you try resetting your perspective or using a clean new workspace folder?

  • Hello Ki,

    Thank you for the reply.

Actually "Power" and "Energy" tap was opened but I just put it in different window.

    I attached the picture below.

I cleaned the project and reset the perspective but it is still not working.

I have changed cables the one is connecting board with debugger and the other is connecting board with host PC.

And also I have changed the MSP430FR5969 board to the other one. (I have two of MSP430FR5969 board.) So board is also not a problem.

This is why I think the problem is about debugger.

But the weird thing is that the energy trace worked well so far with this debugger so I have measured the power before.

also Energy trace++ is also working well but the current.

I think energy trace is keep measuring current to 0 so that the power is also 0.

So I need to find the reason why the debugger is measuring current to 0.

I will attached the picture that shows energy trace++ working.

Do you have another solution for this problem?

    Best,

    Mirae

  • Hi Mirae,
I just wanted to follow up with you if your have resolved this issue. Looking at your post in the other thread, it looks like you may have. Can you confirm this?

    Thanks

  • Yeah I confirmed that issue.
I solved the problem just using ez-FET debugger not using MSP-FET debugger.
One thing I was wondering is why there is a MSP-FET debugger even though I could load the program and trace energy with just eZ-FET debugger?
I thought I have to have a MSP-FET debugger to use energy trace ++ but I did not need to have that debugger.

    Best,
    Mirae
