CCS: CCSv7 License

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello all,

A professor ask,

" Please tell me - can 6.1 licenses be used with the new 7.2? We want to renew the software in our laboratories. But we attach importance to licensing, so that everything is OK with your requirements. "

I told him that, CCSv7 is free software and it is available on TI website.

Then, now he is asking,

"Yes - I read it: Free license for older versions

With the release of CCSv7 all previous v4, v5 and v6 releases are free of charge. Simply unzip and copy the License File for Older versions into <install dir>/ccs_base/DebugServer/license. Then go to Help -> Code Composer Studio Licensing information and point CCS to this license file. Restart CCS.

But still do not understand: is CCS absolutely free of charge? By the way: also in the commercial version?

So what is the old license file for?

So we have network licenses ... we do not have files for all computers in laboratories."

Could anyone help me with this please?

Thank you in advance.

  • Kaustubh,

As of CCSv7 we no longer charge for CCS licenses. This applies to the older CCSv4, CCSv5 and CCSv6 as well. For CCSv7 you can simply just download and install it. You would not need to setup a license server for CCSv7. It never asks for a license file.

For older versions they still require a license file as that is the way they were designed. To enable free usage of these versions we have a license file posted on the CCS download site that you can download and use with them.

    Regards,
