CCS: Compiler supported in CCS3.3

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

Are the new compiler versions supported in CCS3.3, like V15, V16?

Another question, how to install CCS3.3 in Win7 64-bit system? It's not supported, but a lot of people installed successfully. What do we need to take care?

Thanks a lot.

Br, Jordan

Not by default. CCSv3.3 needs compiler installations that support CCSv3.3 registry requirements. It is unlikely that the latest compiler versions support this.

  • Ki,
    Thanks for your reply.
So, which is the latest compiler version supported by CCS3.3?

  • Hi!
I am the one from those who was using CCS v3.3 under Win7x64. I found 64-bit drivers for my emulator on SD site and installed them manually. Then I was able to build and debug my projects.
However, there was a tricky issue with tools selection. CCS v3.3 has a configuration tool, where one may select compiler, DSP/BIOS versions and alike. Somehow that did not work reliably across machines I saw, and finally we end up with brute copying of new CGT to default compiler location.
Another option is to use virtual machine. I definitely not recommend XP Mode for host file system access issues, but both VMWare Playes and Oracle Virtual Box work like a charm. My feeling is that virtual machine gives smoother experience.

Yes this is indeed very tricky. The problem is again the registry. CCSv3 relies on entries added to the Windows registry which have the path to the compiler among other information. Standalone compiler installs which support 3.3 would add this registry entries on installation. However it only assumes a 32-bit Windows system since CCSv3.3 has never supported 64-bit windows. On 64-bit systems, the registry entry needs to be added to a different location (under Wow6432Node) for 32-bit applications running on 64-bit Windows. As you can see, this can cause issues. Manual modifications to the registry can be made to address this but a simpler workaround is as rrlagic mentioned (copying of the new CGT to the default compiler location).

This is just one example of a potential issue with running CCSv3 on 64-bit Windows. Hence why we recommend people using CCSv3.3 to use a supported OS like XP. I agree with rrlagic that an XP VM is likely the best bet (assuming there is no access to a native XP PC)

    Thanks
