CCS/MSP430FR6989: CCS requires update every debug session.

Part Number: MSP430FR6989
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, MSPDS

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I am testing my codes in CCS 7.1.0 in linux, and every time I need to make the upload of my code it requires me to update. I did not use to happen.

  • Sara,

Do you mean that CCS is prompting you to update the firmware on the MSP FET each time you try to launch a debug session in CCS?

Are you running any other tools that communicate with the MSP FET like mspflasher, IAR, UniFlash...?

Which Linux distribution are you running?

    Regards,
    John

  • Yes.
    No.
    Ubuntu 16.04.
  • Hi Sara,

Have you considered upgrading to CCS v7.2? Have you checked for updates and made sure that you have the latest MSPDS and Compiler Tools?

Did you also install the FET udev rules that are shipped with CCS? If not the modem manager may not work with the FET and could partially erase the FW, which would lead to CCS asking to upgrade each time.

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,
No, I did not upgrade to CCS v7.2. How can I do that?
How can I also check I have the latest MSPDS and Compiler Tools?
I don't believe my problem is associated to FET, because I have debug many times without no problems some months ago. I mean, I should have installed the necessary packages.

    Regards,

    Sara
  • Hi Sara,

You can upgrade using the CCSTUDIO-MSP tools page. We still need to identify the difference between your system months ago and now.  You should double-check and reinstall the udev rules if possible since there may have been some changes to your system in recent months.

    Regards,
    Ryan
