CCS/TMS320F2808: CCS4 Output file "xxx.out" exceeds code size limit

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I have been working with code composer studio doing code development for TMS320F2808 DSP for many years and recently began getting this error. I was not aware that with the CCS license I had that there was a code size limit which appears to be approximately 39K. What can I do to resolve this issue? I have tried upgrading my license but nothing seems to help.

Jon,

The free license of CCSv4 had a code size limit of 32KB. The actual program could be bigger than this as some TI libraries would be excluded from the calculation.

With the release of CCSv7 we are no longer charging for CCS licenses. There are a couple of options. One would be to install CCSv7. That would mean moving your project over. If you don't want to go through that process the other option would be to download the license file from here:
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Download_CCS

You can then provide that file to CCSv4 by going to the Help menu in CCS and selecting "Licensing Option".

Hi,

What version of Code Composer are you using?

After CCSv7 was released, all CCS versions after v4 are free of charge.

Thanks for the quick response. I followed your instructions and copied the unzipped file "ccslicense.lic" to the specified location. I then selected that license file from within CCS4 and restarted code composer. The error remains. If I comment out a single line of code it will compile without error.

I am using CCS version 4 with Code Generation Tools 5.2.15

I need to check on something. There was a period of time where we had 2 separate distributions of the Code Generation tools where one had the limit and one did not, in addition to the check that was in CCS itself. That may be the case here. If so I will get you a link to the tools without the limit.

That looks to be the case. I will send you a friend request and then after that I can send you a private message with a link to the tools without the limit.

Likely be best to move the current code generation tools to a different directory and then install these in the place where they were. I don't have a CCSv4 install at the moment but it would have been something like <root install dir>/ccsv4/tools/compiler/<name and version of compiler>

Great. At some point it will make sense to update from CCSv4 to CCSv7. The product has improved a lot since then. Debug performance should be a lot better now.
