CCS4 and XDS options

We are currently using ControlCARD (2808 and 28335) and an Experimenter kit with the free C2000 specific 32k limited version of CCS4 for 2 different projects we have underway.

Once our custom boards are designed they will jut have standard JTAG connections (no onbard emulation, as is on the Experimenter kit).

Which categories of XDS  emulators could we use with our custom boards, assuming our code stays below 32kB? Are we restricted to just XDS100 whilst using the free 32k limited version. Would moving to either XDS510 or XDS560 require us purchase a full version of CCS, irrespective of code size? (excluding evaluation licences)

Thanks,

Graham.

You can use ANY emulator if you are using the free Microcontroller CORE version AND your code size stays below 32K

Only if you are using the full CCS (DVD Image) install.

  • If your code is going to go over 32KB you have a couple options.

    1. Buy a standalone XDS100, you can use a free CCS license with this (no code limit), download the DVD image from the web and select the option to "Use free limited license" the limit it refers to is the connection (emulator) limit and not code size.
    2. Buy a higher performance 510/560 class emulator AND buy a full CCS MCU license.

Option 2 is a lot more expensive as the CCS MCU license is ~$495 and the emulators are more money.  For Option 1 you can do this for <$100.
